I have the same exact problem! The mucus pools in my throat at night and if I swallow it, it just comes back. It will NOT be ignored! I even took to spitting in a cup by my bed! Gross...but getting out of bed several times at night to spit into the sink is more exercise than a need...a cup is easier! I live alone so that's good! I don't know the solution for this...I can't find any real remedies on Google. It's just another inconvenience.

Do you know why you are producing so much mucus? If there is any respiratory congestion/rattling (upper or lower) that accompanies the mucus, I'd suggest seeing a pulmonologist and requesting a sputum culture. There are some pretty disturbing viruses, bacteria, fungus, mold, etc. which can reside in our respiratory tract.
