I've lived with FM for about same as you. I use stretch bands, elliptical, bike & free weights @ gym 2-3 times a week. I've lost over 30 lbs. the past three years. I've been swimming 2 x a week for several months. And I've been eating healthier the past few years. Berries & greens help FM I think. I have to ease into my days usually & sometimes have to push myself to get to the gym. But I don't give up, although the pain does get discouraging. Best to all.

Do you have any suggestions for starting exercises for the stretch bands? Any videos or websites to recommend so I don’t overdo

Low-dose Naltrexone is something I'm trying now and I think it's helping a little. It's hard to tell with Fibro though, because the symptoms come and go like they do, with flares etc. There are no major side effects due to the low dose, although some people have sleep issues, and it doesn't help everyone. If you have questions about it, you can find lots of into on-line. It pills must come from a compounding pharmacy because the that aren't sold in the low doses required.

I tried low dose naltrexone but it didn’t help at all. I hope it works for you!

I've had fibromyalgia most of my life, and I'm 74 years old. In my 40s, I went all out searching for answers, and I found that what helped most was eliminating as much stress as possible and learning to relax in spite of the stress I couldn't get rid of. I listened to self-hypnosis tapes on relaxation. I meditated. I studied dream interpretation, and my dreams told me a lot about my illness. These things may not appeal to a lot of people, but they really did help me at the time. Unfortunately, at the present time I have a lot of stress that I can't eliminate, no time for meditation or hypnosis, so I deal with it the best I can. The only pain medication that helped is Excedrin, and I take the generic (Equate Headache Relief). It helped my migraines, as well as joint and muscle pain. I still take it at least once a day. Without it, I hurt all over. I hope this helps someone.

Hello! I just read this thread and want to let you know that Lyrica (Pregablin is the generic) has helped both my daughter and myself. We also use heat, home massage, daily walking, and occasional baths, stretching, etc.. But Lyrica has really been a game-changer. Enjoy your weekend, everyone. Take care.

Ask your doctor about melatonin. I don’t take it every day but when I do, I take 2.5-5mg. I found a great chewable one. It’s 10mg and I cut it into pieces. It helps me relax and stay asleep all night. Don’t take too much. I tried 10mg and was felt groggy in the morning.

Duloxetine (brand name cymbalta) was prescribed for me by my rheumatologist when I was first diagnosed and it really cut down the pain. It's now one of the first things prescribed but people think it's only for depression. I was not depressed but I find I am less stressed than I used to be. I also walk 2 miles a day, lost 25 lbs. and my husband actually likes giving me massages which help like magic!

Duloxetine really has helped me with my general pain level. Recently, due to circumstances beyond my control, I didn't have any duloxetine for 5 days. My general pain level shot up significantly. Now that I'm back on it, the pain is much more manageable. It doesn't do away with the pain entirely, but it helps significantly. I know that some people can't tolerate it, but I'm grateful that I can. I started on a lower dose, but I'm on 90mg a day, which works for me. I do suffer from depression and anxiety, and duloxetine REALLY helps with that.

I also take low-dose naltrexone (3mg/day), and it really does help with the pain for me. Similarly, I was off LDN for a few days, and the pain was much worse. Back on it, and the pain relief was significant.

BTW, I know better than to go off meds suddenly, but a combination of cost and cognitive decline make medication management difficult for me. I'm working on solutions.

Thanks for the insight. I didn’t know Excedrin helps fibromyalgia pains.

I was put on cymbalta, and have taken that since 2013. I also take 1 alive a day, and supplement with turmeric! Life savers!! No caffine, really limit sugar, and no artificial sugar. Magnesium baths. Heating pad.
