I have taken Losartan 50 mg for years and never experienced side effects with it. I also have taken simvastatin ( 20 mg/day) for many years as well and never had any side effects with this drug either.

I am on Losartan now, 100mg. started it when I had to stop Metoprolol because of Heart block. I now have a PM.I don't have any side effects from it, but I don't think it is is very effective in lowering my BP . My BP was lower with a small dose, 25 mg of metoprolol than this very large dose of losartan.
My husband was on it, 50 mg for years and his BP remained higher than it should have been, often getting into the 150's. He finally convinced his internist to switch to a different drug in the same class as Losartan and now
his pressure are really good, 120's most of the time.

From everything I have read over the last few years, they're saying that Metoprolol ( and other beta blockers as well) shouldn't be the first line, single use medication to control high blood pressure ( though they may be used in patients with ischemic cardiac disease, heart failure, or arrhythmias) as they aren't as effective as the other drugs now used(listed in the article I linked) to control high blood pressure. The side effects of beta blockers ( including significant lowering of the heart rate) also precludes their use in many patients.

I take metoprolol tartrate for heart rate control primarily, and it's very effective in controlling my A-fib and other atrial tachycardias. I also have high blood pressure, and take losartan and chlorthalidone ( diuretic) specifically for blood pressure control, although the metoprolol also works to some degree with the other drugs to keep my blood pressure down.

My cardiologist just put me on Metoprolol for Wolff Parkinson White syndrome. My heart races but not for long periods of time. After looking up the side effects, I’m not sure I want to take it. Did you experience tiredness or weight gain? I’m willing to put up with my heart racing occasionally as long as it’s not causing any damage to my heart…which I won’t know until I have the echocardiogram done. I think I’m going to wait until after the test before I start taking it.

I've taken the metoprolol for so long that any side effects I had from the drug are now distant memories. But the drug has worked so well to control my tachycardia ( which now includes A-fib) that I felt taking the drug was well worth it. I do recall the drug making me tired for maybe a couple weeks after I started it, but that side effect went away after that. I think too often people anticipate they will get all the side effects they read about the drug, so won't even start taking it, although most of the time they don't get these side effects or they get mild side effects that get better after several weeks of taking the drug. When a drug is prescribed, it's always a consideration of whether the benefits outweigh the risks of the drug, and for me, the benefits of metoprolol have always outweighed its risks.
I couldn't say about the weight gain side effects of metoprolol. I've been fighting my weight ever since I could remember, might it be easier to keep the weight off if I didn't take the drug, I don't know. I just know it's difficult but I do what I have to to try and maintain a reasonably healthy weight- that's been pretty much my entire life. That said, though beta blockers ( which compete with the "fight or flight" hormones for the beta receptors in the heart and other organs, depending on which beta blocker it is) might contribute to some weight gain in an individual, it's not a significant amount of weight over time as the body becomes used to it- at least that has been my experience. I've been able to lose a significant amount of weight over the years on metoprolol.
At least that is my experience.
