Had a Whipple surgery July 1st,2024. Am having problems with my remaining lymphnodes draining fluid from my upper abdomen. Has anyone dealt with this.

My husbands Ascites started right after whipple surgery. Tried several things to stop it didn't work. 6 Mos out still have water collecting in abdomen. Have had it drained parasynthesis 3x at hospital as outpatient.

My husband had a pocket of fluid post-surgery in Dec 2023. It became smaller over time and recently became a bit larger again. Then it stayed stable for a couple of months. The only reason the fluid is causing some concern is because it is pressing into his stomach and he gets full very quickly during meals. And his CA19-9 markers went up. But there are other things going on - knee replacement surgery, a fractured tibia and 2 bouts of flu. So for now, oncologist is saying stay the course of chemo, do not go poking around to drain the fluid and monitor closely with scans every 2 -3 months. But draining the fluid is an option except that it seems to be done via the stomach (like gastroscopy) and that could introduce bacteria into the abdomen - not a thing to do when not chemo is ongoing and it does not seem to be dire yet.
