I've had tinnitus off and on for most of my life, but it usually only lasted for a few weeks at a time. This time it's been going on for several years. While it's already loud enough to keep me awake at night, it gets even louder when I'm under a lot of stress or anxiety. I don't think mine is related to medication, though.

Mine started a few weeks ago as my anxiety grew.

Yes, I have been experiencing it for the last several weeks. Is there any treatment for it?

As far as I know anxiety/depression does not directly cause tinnitus. I’ve done a lot of research and have talked to doctors about it. I have anxiety/depression and also have tinnitus. Sometimes tinnitus just happens and doctors don’t know why. Like in my case. Some medications and illnesses can cause tinnitus. Also being around loud noises over extended periods of time can also cause tinnitus. I would see an audiologist and an ENT and see what they say about your tinnitus

I wonder if the reverse might also be happening. Tinnitus can be maddening (I have it). Could tinnitus be leading to anxiety? Have you been exposed to a lot of loud noise? When I was young I was heavy into the Seattle grunge scene when it was still in the bars in the late 80s, and meanwhile working in construction with a lot of power tools. And no ear protection for either. I learned my lesson too late and have dealt with it for about 35 years now. It doesn't cause me anxiety, but it does lead to distraction at times. I've mostly learned to ignore it, but during a period when I was dealing with a major depression crisis it drove me nuts sometimes. Maybe pay close attention when anxiety isn't haunting you and see if you notice it then. In my experience it can be easy to unconsciously tune it out a lot of the time.
