Has anyone not gone thru radiation and hormone blockers?

I was diagnosed with stage 2 e pos her2 neg. localized in the milk duct. 1 node taken that came back negative. I had surgery a week ago and am considering not doing radiation or hormone blockers.

I had 4 weeks of radiation and a lumpectomy but decided against AI. 4 years later I had another kind of cancer in the other breast. Then I had another lumpectomy and 4 weeks of radiation, and I am still not taking any AI's. Many reasons played a part in my decision which included bone health, age at diagnosis and just how ill the AI's made me feel. Next month I will have a follow up mammogram due to a previous Birads 3 diagnosis. Hopefully I will not have another breast cancer diagnosis.

First I was on Xeloda, then Anastrozole and now am on Exemestane. The Exemestane makes me very tired. The Xeloda affected my hands and feet and the Anastrozole made me very moody.

I actually had 3 nodes taken plus surrounding tissue by the tumor. All were negative and I've decided not to get radiation or take the hormone blockers. I've done a lot of research and for me, the side effects out weigh the benefit.

I am newly diagnosed and am ER+ PR-HER2-
I am going to be doing chemo. Then surgery. Stage 2 or 3 just waiting on lymph nodes. Mayo told me there was a 5% chance of recurrence with lumpectomy and mastectomy. So am doing lumpectomy. No radiation and no hormone blocker. I said NO. Recurrence is minimal percentage and I have aggressive disease.(ki-67 93%) No positive gene with genetic testing. I’m 61. If it comes back then possible radiation. But from what I understand you can only get radiation once in same area. So idk. I also have been reading The Smart Woman’s Guide to Breast Cancer. By Dr. Jenn Simmons. I love her. Check her out on YouTube

You have the same diagnosis I had..............ER+PR-HER2-..........I started with chemo then went to radiation then surgery. I was diagnosed when I was 65. I had a lumpectomy and have been on 3 different AI's the current one beng Exemestane. So far, so good, but the AI's are awful. Weight gain, mood swings, tired constantly. I go for another MRI soon. This will be my second and so far so good. Hopefully, I can stop these AI's soon!!

I’m not doing radiation because a few years ago I had open heart surgery and an ICD put in. And I’m probably not gonna do hormone therapy. Even though it’s in my lymph nodes as well. Ya it doesn’t sound pleasant. Prayers to you.

Thank you for your reply. I have appt with rheumatologist next Tuesday to start the ball rolling for Prolia. I decided I really have no other option. Im 82 years young and as a great friend said, "it would be sad if a hip breakage could not be repaired." That got my attention. Im so glad you're tolerating it. If you have any specific symptoms, I'd appreciate knowing. Doc said I would take 4 injections, every six months for 2 years. Blessings and thanks again. Hugs.

I’m wondering if Prolia is is better than Zometa for my age. I’m 75,years young and also want to keep from breaking and also spare my kidneys and liver. So wondering what drug is the safest for us youngsters. I’m supposed to start soon on the AIs and bone medicine.

Hi kaki49. Both my rheumatologist and oncologist recommended Prolia. My oncologist has a handout sheet regarding taking Verzenio and Prolia at the same time. Ive not heard of Zometa. I now feel that the lesser of the two evils is to take Prolia rather than breaking a hip and the doctors NOT being able to repair it. Yes, we are in a mess. I keep praying that God will take care of me. AND, my dentist said she treats several patients who are taking Prolia with no issues. Hope this helps you and eases your mind, even if just a little. Blessings.

I started with Xeloda then went to Anastrozole and am now on Exemestane. It's doable, but will be glad when I am done!!

I'm so glad to hear that your dentist treats patients who are taking Prolia with no issues. I left a msg for my dentist but no reply just yet. Saw Rheumatologist this morning and he said that if my dentist throws a fit, ask her if she's going to be my caregiver when my hip breaks. LOL. He also told me that in 15 years he had one patient with skin issues on one leg and antibiotics cleared that up with no recurrence. So, I now have the ball rolling to begin the Prolia shot. Im feeling better about all of this.

I think you need to look at your risk of reoccurrence and base decision on that. My personal risk was 8 % following estrogen and progesterone positive 8 mm ductal cancer with lumpectomy. I did 4 weeks of radiation since I was less concerned about damaging heart as it was right sided. In hindsight sight I would do no drugs. Had a blood clot from Tamoxifen and took letrozole for about 2.5 years and stopped due to muscle and joint issues. Was given Zometa infusions as I has osteopenia at baseline. I am 3.5 months into recovery from right hip fracture that I think broke before I fell, perhaps an atypical fracture from Zometa. I hope and pray I stay cancer free. Lots of tough choices we have to make and we all just want to live.
