Has anyone not gone thru radiation and hormone blockers?

Posted by amjokisch @amjokisch, May 2 6:45pm

I was diagnosed with stage 2 e pos her2 neg. localized in the milk duct. 1 node taken that came back negative. I had surgery a week ago and am considering not doing radiation or hormone blockers.

@treb68

I had ER + PR + Her-2 negative diagnosed in October of 2018 and had 2 surgeries for a lumpectomy in January of 2019.
I had weeks of radiation and hormone therapy.
I think they don’t tell patients the side effects so you can make an informed decision.
I feel so many things I am experiencing is from radiation and hormone therapy.
Every 6 months I get a Prolia injection for the osteoporosis.
God Bless you are a survivor.

Hi treb68. I have osteoporosis and 13% probability of a severe fracture within 10 years. I am 82 years old and take Verzenio and Anastrazole daily since last November (breast cancer). Has the Prolia caused you any heartache?

Hi there. I have been tolerating the Prolia pretty well. Are they going to give you Prolia? It’s nice because I only have to get the injections once every 6 months.

You have the same diagnosis I had..............ER+PR-HER2-..........I started with chemo then went to radiation then surgery. I was diagnosed when I was 65. I had a lumpectomy and have been on 3 different AI's the current one beng Exemestane. So far, so good, but the AI's are awful. Weight gain, mood swings, tired constantly. I go for another MRI soon. This will be my second and so far so good. Hopefully, I can stop these AI's soon!!

2023 had lumpectomy and SLNB 1.3 cm tumor stage 1, ER/PR+ HER2-, clear lymph node. I turned down oncotype test, radiation and hormone therapy. I felt like the treatments had far more side affects than benefit in my particular case, so I felt comfortable turning them down, who knows if I made the right decision only time will tell 🙂

I too had lumpectomy and radiation, no lymph nodes. I am choosing not to take estrogen blockers because of side effects. I am 73 and don't want anymore discomfort than I already have. Arthritis in my back and intestinal issues.

Hi
I was diagnosed in 2023 Oct. DCIS hormone positive Her 2 negative Stage 0.
2024 I had lumpectomy 1 node removed which came back negative. I did 10 radiation treatments dbl dose. I did not do hormone blockers. this Oct will be my 2nd mammo post surgery and treatment. So far all is good cancer wise. I have osteopenia so was not sure about radiation. I just had 2 compression fractures in my spine 3 wks ago. See my endocrinologist tomorrow. I am sure the radiation has done something to my bone density. Only you can decide what's best for you. I wish you well.

I actually had 3 nodes taken plus surrounding tissue by the tumor. All were negative and I've decided not to get radiation or take the hormone blockers. I've done a lot of research and for me, the side effects out weigh the benefit.

Hi
Unfortunately I had a microscopic break in one of the milk ducts walls .The radiologist felt it would be A risk not to do the radiation , so I made that decision.

Thank you for your reply. I have appt with rheumatologist next Tuesday to start the ball rolling for Prolia. I decided I really have no other option. Im 82 years young and as a great friend said, "it would be sad if a hip breakage could not be repaired." That got my attention. Im so glad you're tolerating it. If you have any specific symptoms, I'd appreciate knowing. Doc said I would take 4 injections, every six months for 2 years. Blessings and thanks again. Hugs.

20 yrs ago I had invasive ductal and lobular cancer- ER + HER2 Borderline. I had lumpectomy, chemo-8 rounds, radiation , Aromasin for 5 years. Cancer has shown up in the other breast. I had 20+ years of remission and yes, it was worth it.

@kategiddyup, I'm sorry to hear that cancer has returned. May I ask what type is the recurrence? Ductal or lobular? What treatment is being recommended?

LCIS and I have a video appt in a week to see which hormone pill I will be on. I took Aromasin before and it was mentioned in my last appt that might be the drug I go on again. .... story to be continued, I guess.... update later.
