vision problem

Posted by dclark1019 @dclark1019, 3 days ago

I have hypothyroidism, lifelong, and numerous allergies, asthma etc. I’ve just developed double vision and was diagnosed with fourth cranial nerve palsy. MRI and CAT scan were negative. Could this be some sort of neuromuscular auto immune disorder causing this?
Does anybody have any idea? I am waiting on a neurology consult

Hello @dclark1019, Welcome to Connect. You mentioned you have hypothyroidism. I have no medical experience but have read that double vision can be a symptom of thyroid eye disease. @donnahanford933, @amberk, and @lajolla44 have mentioned double vision and thyroid eye disease in other discussions and my have some thoughts or information to share with you. How long do you have to wait for your neurology consult?

Did you have an accident, injury, concussion, whiplash, etc. recently? I read that it could be congenital but develop later in life.

How were you diagnosed and what type of specialist diagnosed you (an eye doctor)?

Thanks for the info! The eye specialist said it was 4th cranial nerve palsy. I have hypothyroidism and I’m not hyper so I don’t have the bulging eyes and no one has mentioned thyroid eye disease. I didn’t even know it was a thing. The eye Dr has given me a new script for eyeglasses with prisms I should get them in the next week. He said sometimes this type of palsy will resolve in 3 to 6 months. My worry is why did it happen to begin with? I have had no trauma, it came on within a 1 week period until In could not read or drive. the neurology consult was just put in so I don’t know how long I have to wait.
