It might be worthwhile to share what we do in these categories.

Purpose -
Exercise -
Socialization -
Leisure -

I find that physically, mentally and spiritually you have to touch each one. I like exercising at the center in eden prairie at least 3 times a week. I joined a men’s group that meets once a week and I zoom every week and talk to guys about their life. I get into a musical orchestra every year and perform with them. I go to a church and lead a men’s group every Wednesday. Stay busy… it helps.

@edsutton…this is fun!
Purpose - Single parent to teen son and faith in God/His purpose for me daily.🧍‍♂️🙏
Exercise - Walk dogs daily, house chores/projects and work in my yard. Use my pool in the summer and save baby squirrels/birds/bunnies/frogs that fall in or get stuck in the filter. 😉🐇🐿️🐸🐥🐦‍⬛
Socialization - Talking to son and neighbors, petting/playing with my dogs and cats, and interacting with others on Mayo Clinic Connect. 🙂🧍‍♂️🧍🧍‍♀️🦮🐕🐈🐈‍⬛
Leisure - Reading good books, especially the Bible, watching TBN, good documentaries or movies, researching various topics to continuously learn, and hanging out in yard watching birds, squirrels and rabbits bouncing around and enjoying the sunshine and my trees/flowers or having a fire in my fire pit. 📺📖📚📱💻☀️🕶️🐰🐿️🐤🐦🌹🌸💐🌺🌷🌻🌳🔥

Pickleball checks off all the boxes for me! Gets me outside with people having fun and moving. Check out your local club. I am 72 and have bad knees so I am careful how I play don’t play anything competitive I let balls go that in my younger days I would’ve chased. It’s all about having fun and not getting hurt. Try it.

My advice: Stay as active in body and mind as you possibly can. I am divorced and lucky enough to count my former husband, his wife and their two daughters as life-long friends. Turning 84 this year with the typical aches that accompany the 80s! Both hips replaced years ago, a left knee that likes to swell from time to time. I enjoy writing and maintain a Poetry Blog, participating in several writers' groups. Belong to a book club that meets monthly .. also a small group of neighbors who have been getting together on Fridays for Happy Hour since April 2020 and Covid! We meet outdoors in all kinds of weather, fire pit or rain gear as required and call ourselves "The Driveway Drinkers." I have two younger Sisters who live in other States - we text most days and have occasional Google Meet face to face "parties" !! Our 63 year old son lives with me. He is Special Needs, high functioning and works 32+ hours at a supermarket close to our townhome. I cannot imagine life without "Carl." Our adult daughter and 32 year old granddaughter also have homes in our smallish city! A grandson and his fiancé live in Salt Lake City. I have a son in Minneapolis and a son in Winston Salem with whom I am in regular contact. I am BLESSED. I walk outdoors as often as possible 2-3 miles fast! I enjoy travel and do so when time permits. Every now and then I pull out my flute, give it the 'old college try' until my mouth muscles fail and I return it to its case. I enjoy cooking, decorating, community theatre and music concerts! I have energy and a zest for life, thankfully. And all of this keeps me going! Cheers to everyone. I am 79. I have 2 dogs whom I walk. Belong to a very nice Club with pool, exercise classes and wonderful dining. My friends and I have a monthly book club. I live close to my kids and grandkids. My husband and I love traveling. I am a fairly good watercolor artist. I still have contact with my high school and college friends. Keeps me busy. And then there are those days to just hang out quietly at my home.
