Skin problem and blow outs on bag edge
I am almost 6 months out of surgery. I have a rash around the stomach area where bag adheres to skin. Any suggestions?
Also. My stool seems to collect at the stoma and eventually pushes thru the seal of the bag. Any suggestions? I started using the lubricant and it seems to help. Trying to firm up stool as well. Thank you

Hi annpeters, I believe he’s referring to a product called Skin Tac liquid adhesive, by Torbot. I use it as well and it works so good at helping your appliance stick better to your skin. You can get it at Amazon , many online medical supply shops, and probably some drug stores near you, but definitely Amazon, that’s where I get it… between a good thorough cleaning drying , using Brava rings and using skin prep wipes…the addition of this skin tac adhesive gives me an average of nine days with my urostomy and 14 days with my Ileostomy.

1 ReactionSo with a urostomy u r dealing with urine…no stools? With stools there is a buildup of feces creating a pancake under the bag that eventually leads to a leak in the wall of the bag adhered to the skin. I am anxious to try the skin tac tho, to see if it helps with a colostomy.

1 ReactionI change bags with an urostomy every Sunday, so I get 7 days. After the bladder removal surgery (due to GYN cancer) I was told to change it every 3 to 4 days, the management of it became overwhelming. Once a week is not overwhelming. I never thought of going past 7 days, concerned about UTIs due to bacteria in the bag. Like you, I am meticulous about the skin cleaning and use the ring and the skin prep wipes. Interesting that you get 9 days with the urostomy, wow!
Yes, with my urostomy it’s just urine. Sometimes, even though I have an ileostomy, where usually the stool is more loose than a colostomy, I sometimes still get firmer stools and it does stick to the stoma. You can also put some baby oil on the inside of the bag that’s near the stoma and a drizzle a little inside the bag to help the stool slide down easier. Plus, up your fluid intake, with water, and a little apple juice to help loosen the stool up, that might help.
