@maize have you ever taken the biotin supplement? I do think it helps with my hair loss. At least some.

I take nutrafol everyday for months. My hair grows faster but very expensive. It takes about six months before my hair thickened up but grew faster right away.

Try nutrafol. I take it and it seems to make my hair grow faster and it is thicker.

Interesting...Maybe it has to do with how it effects some lab tests. Just guessing.

Also noticed that the brand of biotin I am taking (made by a local grocery store) is at the 10000mcg level. It seems unlikely that the grocery store would make their in-house brand at a higher level than is perscribed. That thought leaves us with some questions...

I had PRP, the procedure where blood is drawn, put in a centrifuge, and the plasma is injected back,in my case, right into the scalp. I've been using minoxidil foam daily since hen, and my hair is back to normal. Unfortunately, once hair follicles die, there's nothing to bring them back to life. That's why it's so important to treat hair loss early on. Also, minoxidil benefits last only as long as you take it. It reverts back if you stop, but it's very quick, just rubbing the foam into your hair; so there's really no reason to stop.

How long does it takes to see the effects of the minoxidil?
I have been using a week now.

I don't know how long it takes to see results. I've been on it since before Covid. My hairdresser told me yesterday that she'd forgotten I'd ever had a problem with thinning hair. An R.N. friend started on it a few months ago. She said she's beginning to see improvement.
Good luck!

My dermatologist mentioned medication for hair loss, you may want to ask. Minoxidil comes in pill form, used to treat hair loss, and super inexpensive. There are other pill form medications for hair loss. Maybe your dermatologist has some idea. I take Spring Valley Extra Strength Hair, Skin & Nails 5,000 mcg Biotin Supplement. I stop taking it 5 days prior to thyroid blood lab work as it impacts TSH.... It helps me no loose excessive hair, can take several weeks to work. I hope you find something that works which you can take.

Nutrafol won't be good for me. Just checked, not recommend for anyone who has autoimmune hepatitis (AIH). That's my problem with this autoimmune disorder. The liver. I'll ask my rheumatologist for any suggestion at visit tomorrow. Hair thinning is one of many issues with AIH or medication treating AIH. There's swelling of legs, severe itching at night, trouble sleeping, muscle cramping, depression, even the palms of my hands turn red, my fingers ice cold, on and on. If all else fails, it's comforting to know I found this connection to a community who understands, a place I can vent. I have great friends but they don't know how I feel, what this disorder is doing to me physically and mentally, but you do. Thank you.

I have RA and have to take methetrixate, plaquenil, folic acid hopefully it will keep working so I won't have to take a biological. I exercise and eat healthy. My doctor let's me take the nutrafol ...it seems to work for my hair. My hands don't swelling up and I am not in pain anymore. RA is an autoimmune disease with no cure but I am in remission right now. Good luck to us in controlling our diseases.

Yes, it has helped me a lot. I won't claim I'm back to my original thick hair, but I'm glad for all the hair that has come back AND that the hairs that fall out have lessened a good deal. I've been on the maximum dose for about 2 years.
