I have been taking Sotalol for Afib and SVT for 10 years. Sotalol was much better at controlling the arrythmia and I felt no side effects except for occasional headache and hair loss. It worked very well for 9 years and then the arrythmia started up again and I had an ablation for Afib and a few months later an ablation for the SVT. I think Sotalol of all 3 drugs they can offer is the best with the least amount of side effects.
I agree. I was on Metoprolol for years. Got switched to Sotalol 3 years ago. So much better. Never had an episode since I started Sotalol.
I was on Sotolol for a little over a year. Kept increasing the dose as I would eventually start going into afib. After a year I was switched to Amioderone which works but is a horrible drug to take long term. Also when starting Sotolol I was kept in the hospital for three days so they could monitor my QT interval after each of six doses (one morning and one in the evening) to make sure it didn't become too prolonged which can be very dangerous.

I took Sotolol for a month and had side effects. I was constantly nauseous and had no energy. It also slowed my heatbeat where my pacemaker had to work more often. My new Mayo doctor took me off of it. I am scheduled for an ablation soon which makes me happy to leave the bad drugs behind!
All you have to do is Google the side effects of any medicine. Here is what first site listed.
Blurred vision.
chest pain, tightness, or discomfort.
confusion.
difficult or labored breathing.
dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position.
fast, slow, irregular, pounding, or racing heartbeat or pulse.
lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting.
Sounds like a party I could do without.
I went through the change to sotalol from metropol about 3 years ago . Had to be monitored in the hospital for three days when first started to make sure It was safe for me. So far it has been very good at maintaining NSR. I am 81 and walk and exercise everyday. It works for me but I am not able to get the heart rate to high as sotalol lowers heart rate.
Thank you! What is your resting heart rate with the Sotalol?
