Why don’t anxiety meds work for me?
In Sept. 2024 out of nowhere I developed extreme anxiety. Went to primary care doctor and was prescribed Effexor (which I had successfully taken previously). This time it didn’t provide any help. Dr. then prescribed Lexapro (which didn’t help) and then Celexa (which didn’t help). By this time, I lost 45 pounds by not being able to eat and constant diarrhea. Dr. then told me to find another practitioner as there was nothing more she could do for me. Since then I have seen 4 PNP and none of their prescribed meds have helped. What do I do?

I am sitting here reading comments. I am petrified because my husband left to go food shopping. I haven’t left the house in about a week. I have so many different prescriptions where I only took 3 or 4 pills from them but stopped because of odd physical/mental sensations. The prescribers (there were many) dismissed me as being non compliant. Sometimes I just flat out refused to fill the prescriptions (Klonopin) due to all the horror stories about it. But I have no life now anyway.
I understand. I am struggling with the same things. I tried multiple medications for up to six weeks and had to stop due to side effects and sensations or rashes. One of the things that is clear is that any SSRI is going to be activating before and if it eventually works. That is a really difficult situation with the high level of anxiety. I had been on the Klonopin for over six months and tried to keep my doses low. But with the condition and issues with sleep, I was always on at least 1/4 to 1/2 mg. Now, my Doctor changed me to Valium because the Klonopin seemed to not work as effectively . I struggle and force myself to get out most days even when it is the last thing I want to do with the physical and emotional distress. I will keep praying for you.

Are you able to drive your car? I haven’t driven in about 9 months and have to rely on my husband to get me to doctors’ appointments. To be quite honest, I keep canceling my appointments as I get those “waves” of fear and I will have to run out with no explanation. No one understands what we go through except those who are suffering like we are. I know I shouldn’t neglect my “health” but at this stage of the game what difference does it make. I have been on three different sleep aids: Ativan, Xanax, and Valium (actually four if we count the Ambien which used to work great but then stopped). I honestly don’t believe there’s any active ingredients in these meds — only filler. I want to thank you for corresponding with me. My days are spent at home and getting messages seems to perk me up.
Hope you get some sleep with the Valium.
Sometimes meds it’s not the answer, practicing meditation works great
for me, I was told to embrace the anxiety when it comes because anxiety it’s an emotion and not real (it feels real) but it’s not, Buddha says anxiety it’s like a cloud it will pass

Terrible day. There is no help.
I am headed to The Psychiatrist Office right now. Not sure if he will be able to offer any meaningful help. He may suggest taking the Valium consistently throughout the day. Not sure what to do for the anxiety. Then the high anxiety fuels depression. I am just looking for a method to getter better sleep at night that can help start to reverse the cycle.
Really struggling at nighttime and the mornings.
Just did cryotherapy session at Restore. Helps temporarily for a couple hours.
Have you tried Trazadone?
No, I have not tried Trazodone. I am at the point where I don’t even want to try anything else.
It is a sedating antidepressant. It is not habit forming. it's the only thing that works for me. Worth a try??
Yes. I am taking Trazadone in the evenings to assist with sleep. I went off of it for about a month, but was struggling so recently resumed. The issue is that I just am not sure that I am metabolizing properly and the results of the medications are very mitigated. Accept lots of side effects from most on the prescribed medications that have been tried.
Not sure if you have ever heard of KPU? But my last testing was over 80 with a 20 being the high end of the range. The high KPU affects the high level of secretion of very important nutrients ; example B6 and Zinc that impact mental issues due to the metabolism limitations
