Autoimmune Progesterone Dermatitis

Hello everyone,

I was curious to know if anyone had experience with autoimmune progesterone dermatitis? I have had severe allergic reactions including anaphylaxis and skin rashes. After positive progesterone skin testing with an allergist and failed attempts to tolerate even tiny doses of progesterone, I was diagnosed with APD (allergic reactions to my own progesterone). My immunologist and I have not had success with desensitization and we are hoping Xolair injections will help. I also have Lupus which has been aggravated by these frequent allergic episodes.

Hi all. I am just getting this diagnosis even though hives right before my period was the reason I started seeing an allergist/immunologist over a year ago. It has been a wild and not acceptable ride since then with lots of detours. Despite medical professionals believing it was something else, we are right back to where I started and I really need to find a doctor that knows this. I am in the Phoenix area. I have only found one in Tucson and she is not accepting new patients. Looking for any assistance. Not a single doctor has been able to perform the skin tests to confirm. I have been to a dermatologist at Mayo and they do not have anyone they can refer to here. Thanks in advance!

@queeniev29 Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! I’m so glad you found this site. You can see that this is a common concern. It can take years to get a diagnosis.
https://connect.mayoclinic.org/comment/1267637/. I mentioned to one member that she contact the Autoimmune Association and ask if they have names of rheumatologists. You can also call university teaching hospitals or comprehensive medical centers. When the members start answering you, they may have good suggestions, too.
What are your symptoms that are so unknown to the doctors?
