Musinex Changes E
The FDA has proposed that nonprescription drugs that contain phenylephrine be removed from pharmacy shelves. Phenylephrine is a nasal decongestant used in nonprescription cold products, such as Mucinex and Sudafed and other products, that the regulatory agency says is not effective.
I realize that the guaifensin is the main ingredient we seek .
I did use Musinex and the Walmart Equate Musinex. These products are no longer the same at my Walmart . I did not see any regular Musinex on the shelf . . I purchased the Equate Brand. It looks different. The pill is layered blue. It does not have the effect that it had before , less effective on lung
mucus . I had not taken the products for the nose congestion they claim it is ineffective at relieving. The formula of Equate Musinex For me , is no longer effective at decongesting nose or chest mucus . One article I read says the original formula Mucinex is still available at Walgreens and Rite-aid, so far . I have resorted to searching for guaifenesin.
I have tried some and ordered other brands of tablets . My BlueCross/Blue Shield Advantage Plan will not cover guaifenesin. I see that my OTC plan will not cover it either . ? Guaifenesin is not a prescription. Mucinex is the brand name which is rather expensive. Just buy guaifenesin by equate, guardian( Amazon) or other makers to pay less.
. You do not need mucinex D. Just mucinex to loosen secretions. There should be no difference in loosening mucus. Drink lots of water with it.
Yes, I am , as I said , getting my hands on some guaifenesin . My doctor wrote me a prescription for guaifenesin . It was to thwart the cost of Musinex. My insurance won’t cover it, not prescription or OTC. I have already tried one brand. It had side effects . Now I am using an herbal one , it is working well but is not time released . I take it every 4 hours. I have another brand of guaifenesin arriving today . Blessed Be, Crystalina
Has anyone tried Mullein tea or gummies instead of musinex or guaifenesin? I wonder which is better?
Thanks
I haven’t tried mullion tea or gummies. . I won’t try that . I don’t want to take the time . I just went thru a few days with Equate Musinex not working . I need mucus help every day. I can notice the difference when I go without . A while back , I had people walking on my property picking mullion leaves . They said they were drying them for their use .
I use Robitussin expectorant. Works much better on me than Musinex. Most hospitals only use and stock Musinex.
Musinex was very expensive. $23 a pac of 20. Two a day.
69$ a month . The ingredient they removed made it not so effective. I don’t see it on the shelves at Walmart now. The Walmart brand is also different . I do not know if that same ingredient was in Robitussin. Odd , FDA says that ingredient was pulled for ineffective relief of nasal mucus. The side effects of Musinex were drowsiness, dizziness , etc. They have been warning since Nov 24. Now are pulling from shelves . Next step they say is final . Again , I express my opinions and hearsay . None medical or legal advice.
I have been using mullein tincture twice daily under my tongue. I find it has given me some relief with excess mucus
Guaifenesin is so much cheaper than mucinex. I just bought 300 1200 tabs for $65.
I have two kinds now. What brand did you buy ??
They no longer work due to FDA removing "Sudafed" from all decongestants. I have chronic sinusitis. I now have like a "cold" everyday. I now take my 12 hr dose 3-4 times a day. They can't ever just leave things alone. Been on the market for years. But we have to change it. All BS to me. And we all suffer. Why don't they use people that actually use the products in their so called testing.
