Phlegm in my throat and post nasal drip after Covid

Posted by danny2022 @danny2022, Dec 18, 2022

Ever since I had covid in January of 2022 I recovered from the virus but I was left with a constant phlegm in the back of my throat and post nasal drip that will not go away. The feeling of having mucus in the back of my throat actually gets worse when I try to get rid of it by coughing. I have been given steroid inhalers, albuterol, allergy medication, but none of these work. The mucus gets worse especially after I eat. I've never felt like this before and it all started after covid. Can anybody relate to what I am going through?

yeah you and I could talk about mucus
I have had Covid 4 times
the first 3 times no phlegm or mucus
most of my side effects were psychological

the 4th time however my Covid was mild, took paxlovid and a month later was smacked with excessive phlegm

I can fill up a coffee cup a day with phlegm
its been this way day in day out for 9 months
I have seen 6 doctors and counting

I have also been given steroids, inhalers, chest x ray
nothing helps

I have been told to focus on diet and exercise and cut out dairy, alcohol and bump up water consumption in a major way

as of today I have heard about something called lung fibrosis post covid and have a phone number for the pulmonologist who did a study where patients suffering from these two types of lung fibrosis were given 3 month? courses of steroids and supposedly its actually helpful. I am going to cold call this guy in omaha on Monday and see if he has anybody out here in rural Hawaii who can help because my doctors are convinced its all just gonna get better on its own with some effort on my part towards wellness but by all accounts this lung fibrosis thing actually doesn't get better unless its treated and if treated supposedly everyone sees results in a positive sense.....

I also drink a ton of breathe easy tea and make a juice with pineapple, turmeric, honey, black pepper, oregano and carrots that seems to help a lot...also nasal douche with saline solution and then doing my inhaler and nasal spray combo

I also take NAC, b vitamin, magnesium daily and chew up a clove of raw garlic

doc has me modifying that to include vitamin c and doubling up on the nac

Try adding 1/2 Tablespoon of NutriBiotic immunity brand Sodium Ascorbate powder to your nasal rinse solution. It is available on amazon. Helps activate chloride channels in your respiratory tract which makes mucus less sticky and easier to swallow. Let me know if it helps you.

Did you get the vaccine before the mucus started.

I got vaccines as soon as they were offered and before I got COVID and I have been getting vaccines at every opportunity all along. I have lost count of how many I've had! I also get flu shots every fall.

To recap for you:
What it boils down to in my years of visits with multiple doctors/specialist is an inflammatory response from overactive mast cells. This is directly from Allergy/ Immunology (A/I) and ENT but applies to my respiratory and GI issues as well) Like they went into high gear when confronted by the virus but they didn’t stop. This was only after doctors treated me as some kind of crazy freak and denied a Covid connection.

My best treatments:
*Cromolyn Sodium liquid/ H2 blockers-Famotodine - (I had a dozen ulcers in stomach and esophagus/ these worked) from Allergy/Immunology (GI rx’d PPIs
* Albuterol (fr. Pulmonary: I have normal PFTs but due to symptoms they diagnosed Covid induced asthma) and Montelukast (first from Pulmonary/ again from A/I but I have multiple drug allergies/sensitivities, Montelukast is one/cant do it regularly but I’ve gone back and forth and know it helps)
*Azithromycin - from ENT; I discussed above low dose/long term. (Short durations of amoxicillin and Amoxi-Clav worked only while on them)

Good luck with your Pulmonary visit. Have you seen Allergy/Immunology?

Thank you !!! My theory after 1 1/2 yrs of coughing up thick crud in spontaneous coughing spells was that the virus I had caused overactivity in "mucous" glands. Finally some professionals actually acknowledge the same thing. ❤️

I hear ya! I theorize that my severe coughing fits, effective as they were, but unavoidable when this first started, were responsible for the hiatal hernia, and it’s still a problem! I’m hoping my yoga classes will improve it.

I wonder could the vaccine be the cause of all this mucus, that’s what I am try to establish.
I only took one shot of the vaccine.
I caught covid before the vaccine came out.
It’s only the second time round when I coughs it I started having the musics issues

I never thought of that! Could be!

You may find it helpful to speak with an ENT and ask specifically what he/she knows about gustatory rhinitis pre- or post_COVID.
