Has anyone done well after doing the Reclast Infusion? I am due to do this before the end of April 2025 Kind of scared with hearing all bad side effects and need to hear good news with Reclast?

I am a 73 year old healthy woman. I was diagnosed with osteoporosis thru dexa scan. I had Reclast in December 2024. Except for feeling tired day after infusion, I had no other side effects. I took tylenol day before, day of, and day after infusion. I also drank 64 oz. of water day before, day of, and day after. I still try to drink as much water as I can to protect my kidneys. My next Reclast will be in December of 2025.

I only had some fluish side effects for a few days for which I alternated Tylenol and Advil.. I did a similar water routine and was also given an antihistamine in addition to the recommended Tylenol on infusion day.

@mmourton I have had 3 Reclast infusions in the past. I was scared beforehand after reading about bad side effects. But I had no issues at all and no side effects. A good friend of mine had her first Reclast infusion last month. She also had no issues.

Can’t speak to long term impacts, which still make me nervous. But I’m 4 years past my last infusion and so far, so good.

Good luck with your infusion!!

I had Reclast infusions for 3 years with absolutely no side effects. My new spine/osteoporosis specialist switched me to monthly Actonel pills because Reclast can be hard on the kidneys. The pill is a challenge because I also take thyroid meds which must be taken daily on an empty stomach. So, the days I take Actonel, I take that first, wait an hour and then take my thyroid meds, then wait 30 minutes before eating breakfast. It's annoying but it works and my T scores have actually improved.

Are you saying your Dexa numbers are good even 4 yrs after the last Reclast infusion? Or are you taking another treatment now? Thank you

@deborahla I was primarily responding to what I read as concerns about negative side effects of Reclast.

Results-wise, my DXAs are relatively stable, but still slowly heading the wrong direction. But this was over the first years of menopause when many people lose a lot of ground. My CTX scores have remained low (150) in the 4 years since I had my last Reclast infusion.

My endo wants me to start Tymlos, but I am waiting for a year before starting because I just started HRT about 7 months ago and want to see if that has any impact first.

If you have a qualified doctor, I suggest listening to your doctor and not waiting. They work together. I’ve been on the HRT for nine months along with the RECLAST and the TYMLOS one after the other and then I will go back to the RECLAST when I finish two years on the TYMLOS for two injections. I will stay on the HRT with constant testing to make sure I don’t develop any cancer along the way at 68

I had horrible side effects, which lasted three days because no one prepared me before I went in with the water and the Tylenol and whatever else. I read up on it afterwards and it seems that this happens to 10% of the people on the first infusion and then the last two there’s only a one percent chance of something happening. But as I said, I wasn’t prepared so next time I go, I’ll be prepared. What is scarier is that when they opened my neck for spinal surgery my bones fell apart in their hands, and they had no clue. This was gonna happen based on my DEXA scores. That meant I had to have a second surgery that was more massive because the screws didn’t hold, and I had to have a bigger surgery through my back with bigger screws and a rod. That kind of puts into context where one’s fear might wanna really be placed. I asked the surgeon why this happened when I take DEXA scans for 25 years and have regular check ups, and he said sometimes the DEXA are very general and there was no way for them to know. I’m with the top team at Ucsd a teaching hospital with the best surgeons and it was an unusual thing that happened to me. It was a horrible thing to struggle through. I don’t want to take any chances. I’ll do the medicine.

Thank you for responding. I was wondering because I on Evenity now and plan Reclast after and it sounded like you were not doing any therapy after the Reclast but I see it is more complicated than that (as it usually is). I am concerned about how long I will have to take Reclast I guess.

I haven’t had it but my dr scheduled me for an infusion few weeks from now. He suggested I transition fro Alendronate. I am getting cold feet and just cancelled my infusion. I am reading too many bad reviews and after my experience with a bad rash from Prolia injection I’m not crazy about infusing

I have been taking it for years. I am now 63. Biggest thing is drink a lot of water before and after. They put u in comfortable chairs and you are over in no time. The only problem is when you need to have dental work. It depends on what u are having done. Routine is fine, oral surgery is more complicated. Hope I helped. Good luck!

I’m glad you asked for positive comments about Reclast since we only seem to read the negative! I’m a 70 yr old, relatively healthy woman who is four months post infusion. I hydrated well both before and after, along with Tylenol, and have had no side effects at all. My endocrinologist pointed out that he’s only had two patients with serious side effects since he’s started prescribing it roughly 15 years ago and both of those cases were patients recovering from cancer so there were other factors involved. Good luck!
