Having long covid and getting the updated vaccine: side effects?

Posted by annies444 @annies444, 2 days ago

I've had long covid since summer of 2024 and someone very sensitive to side effects/medication. My PCP now wants me to get the 2024-25 vaccine. My online search has shown me that with my LC symptoms of body aches and PEM that the vaccine might well make my symptoms worse, cause additional symptoms and prolong LC. Anyone also sensitive have experience with this? My gut says don't get it, but I am both worried about getting the vaccine and not getting it...thoughts?

Annies444,
You know how your body reacts better than the doctor. The doctor is sincerely trying to be helpful. However, follow your own feelings and make your decision based on that. Also pray about it. Just ask God for help and he will be there for you. After all, he made you and he knows best what your body can tolerate.
I'll say a prayer for you too.

I got the booster in Nov and about a week later slid backwards and I still haven't recovered. It's been very discouraging! Fatigue, brain fog, muscle aches and new symptoms I didn't have before. I got the Novavax to which I had no immediate reaction unlike the others. It's a gamble! I didn't want to get Covid again but for me it was the wrong choice.

I got the original variant in March of 20 and had boosters up until this past year when my doctor advised that it would make things worse and in fact after every booster I had, I had had major setbacks, so I elected not to get further boosters, since I was terribly sick for days afterwards. Good luck with your decision.

I get the vaccines and boosters. I caught covid 2 years ago (high viral load and vaccine 6 mo before) and still have some PEM fatigue. I do get a reaction to the vaccine, feels like flu symptoms for a day or two, but this is just my immune system kicking in. I've never had long-term side effects from vaccines. I'm 71 and have multiple autoimmune diseases, but I'd rather get covid-lite than run-over-by-a-truck covid. As an aside, it is good to check your vaccination status overall, what with measles, TB, and other diseases rearing up. We were heading to a family get together when one said her two sons had whooping cough, so we bowed out. Hubby later tested for immunity to mumps, measles, and whooping cough, and came up zero immunity. He got the vaccines but we dodged a bullet with the family gathering.

I have gotten every vaccine and booster. It took me twice getting boosters to determine that they do make my vertigo Brain fog and fatigue worse. Last one in November and still suffering from vertigo etc very frequently. I will speak with my doctor in June but plan to get no more vaccines for Covid.

I had Covid in December of 2022 and lost my taste and smell. It’s now April of 2025 and I still don’t have them back. I also did not get any more boosters after the 1st two I received. When I got my first Vaccine for Covid, I was so excited to receive it, but after I got poked, I had a metal taste in my mouth. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I lost my taste and smell with the virus in December of 2022, but that metal taste in my mouth was from the first Vaccine. I told my doctor I wouldn’t be getting any more of them and he was fine with it. I believe that’s how this all began! I now suffer from Long Covid, along with still no taste/smell, which is part of Long Covid. I’ve had 7 Stellate Ganglion Block injections and they didn’t do much of anything.
