Has anyone had a Hysteroscopy biopsy vs a D&C for uterine biopsy?
Has anyone had a hysteroscopy done instead of a D&C for uterine biopsy after postmenopausal bleeding?
I am 74 and had two episodes of slight spotting. My gynecologist did an exam and I had a transvaginal ultrasound, both were normal so my Dr didn't think a biopsy to check for cancer was needed, but said she'd do a biopsy if I wanted one. I don't want the in-office biopsy because I've had that done before and it was very painful. She suggested the MyoSure procedure which is a hysteroscopic procedure done under sedation and is less invasive than a D&C. But, the MyoSure brochure says it mainly. used to remove fibroids and polyps. Also, some research I've done said "The use of hysteroscopy in endometrial cancer is not established as there is concern that cancer cells could be spread into the peritoneal cavity." Other studies say it's as safe as a D&C.
I want to ask for a biopsy for reassurance that the spotting is not due to cancer, but I'm wondering if a D&C would be the better procedure. I'm going to ask my Dr but wanted to ask if anyone else had the MyoSure procedure done after abnormal spotting?

I did D&C did not show cancer cell, but my Dr go ahead did hysterectomy, turned out it is cancer.
Can you share why your Dr recommended that surgery when your D&C didn't show cancer? Were you having other issues that indicated cancer? Thank you.
Hello I’m 54 I had a hysteroscopy and DNC done under general anesthesia
@daisy17: My biopsy prior to D&C shows hyperplasia, not rule out cancer, my D&C shows suspect atipical hyperplasia (40% will have cancer), that is why Surgeon removed all woman's parts. The uterus cut sections showed cancer in the end.
What kind of biopsy did you have prior to the D&C -- was it an in-office biopsy? I have an appt with my Gynocologist in a few days to discuss what kind of biopsy to have. I don't want another in-office one because the last one was so painful.
Did you have any cancer treatment after the surgery? Thank you so much for the information.
The biopsy I did is in office biopsy, i have no treatment after surgery from doctor's recommendation, but I am still consuliting to radiation oncologist to see if I need brathy radiation.
The only tests I had before the D&C were a PAP smear and an ultrasound. The D&C was in surgery, because I wanted anesthesia.
Yes. 69-years old and had a Hysteroscopy with D&C under anesthesia. In office hysteroscopy in office, was unsuccessful, and painful. (my cervix was closed). That was a lucky break for me, because the hysteroscopy is like a pinch of sample and can easily miss the cancer. The D&C is more assured to remove fibroids if that is that is your issue, and get more tissue to pathology. IMHO - speed is of the essence at our age, so advocate hard for yourself.
Regarding a Hysteroscopy -- what was that procedure like for those of you who had it done? Was it just a camera that went inside the uterus before the D&C? Or did it include sending a liquid solution through the hysteroscope and into your uterus, which I've read "might disseminate endometrial cells into the peritoneum". I asked my Dr about this and she minimized this concern.
This question has me concerned. I have had 4 "periods" in 2 months, some only last a couple of days, some last 8 days. I had a failed Biopsy in the office (she wouldn't continue because I was in so much pain), so she ordered a hysteroscopy under anesthesia. She did not say she would be doing a DNC. She also ordered a Vaginal ultrasound for a few days later. It's taken 2 months (I called for an appointment as soon as I started bleeding the first time) to get to this point. Should I be requesting a D&C to be more thorough?
