Degenerative Disc Disease in neck then vertigo
I have suffered for years with degenerative disc disease of my neck. This pass week after returning from vacation my neck started really aching and then l got a vertigo attack. Since then I've felt off. I went to pc doctor and she feels it's my ear which l do have a little problem with. I feel it's from my neck. Reading about cervical vertigo. I've gotten since the initial vertigo one or two more. I was doing good until l was on my cell phone yesterday with a friend. While talking to her l got a short vertigo. I has mri on brain a year and a half ago but doctor is sending me for brain and neck tomorrow. Has anyone has these issues with have ddd and vertigo. Glad today medicine is done. Prednisone does wonders for your state of mind and other things. Thanks in advance.

Yes sounds familiar. I get vertigo just by bending my head back. But also sometimes have BPPV (ear crystals dislodged), fluid in ear, and sometimes "vestibular migraine" which comes from the brain. I have stopped trying to figure it out!
So you have nausea and vomiting with your vertigo?
I had nausea and vomiting the first day but since then my stomach is fine other then the meds messing things up. It's the balance issue that is most annoying. Afraid to even shower.
So happy to read your comments. I have had neck problems for years and my MRI a year ago with a diagnosis of a small central and left paracentral disc herniation in L5-S1 of my spine. To be honest, I don't think this has anything to do with my experience of vertigo a few days ago. I took myself to urgent care with my balance issue, not dizziness per say. She asked if she could try a "Epley" maneuver? I agreed. This procedure sent the exam room spinning and made me want to throw up. My eyes went crazy. It was a horrible horrible feeling. Since the experience I have been researching dislodged ear "crystals". I don't think I could put myself through another Epley maneuver unless I'm absolutely sure it works. Now waiting for an appointment with an E.N.T. specialists.
Any comments on the success of the Epley maneuver?

In answer to your question about the Epley maneuver, it is the only thing that helps me when my vertigo kicks in which it does occasionally. Sometimes it occurs if I move my head wrong, sometimes I wake up with it, and sometimes there is no rhyme or reason. At times it is mild, and at other times, it is severe, complete with severe nausea and complete incapacitation. The first few times I went to a PT, but I can do it myself now and rarely have to go in. The important thing is to choose a PT that has the goggles so they can determine which ear to treat, and they can also see when you are stabilized. I believe you should go to the ENT first to rule out any other cause for your vertigo, and let them make recommendation for a PT if they feel it is crystals. I do not know what I would do without the Epley. I realize that it may make the spinning worse temporarily, but it will work. It may be necessary to do it more than one time. I have found through experience that it will not go completely away on it's own, at least in my case. It may subside for a while, but until I get the crystals back in place, it just comes back. I have not had luck with the motion sickness meds. They just make me sleep, and the problem is still there when I wake up.
Thank you for your helpful response. I'll wait and see what the ENT has to say when I get the appointment,
