Feedback on Linzess for Irritable Bowel-C or Chronic Constipation

Posted by sue225 @sue225, Mar 9, 2019

I have both of the above-conditions. Took Linzess, (called Constella in Canada) and got terrible stomach pain. Feeling desperate and thinking about trying it one more time. Interested in hearing what kind of experiences other people have had with linaclotide/linzess.

My feedback on using Linzess:
I have been on Linzess 290 since June 2024. It has worked wonderfully. For me it worked within hours. I am so glad to find a doctor that did something other than tell me to eat more vegetables and fiber....... which I kept getting told for decades. Sometimes I would just quit eating.
I started on 145 but discussing it with one of my siblings she informed me that they made 290 also. So I asked my doc for 290. If I was still working it would be a problem because I take it at about 0330 ..... by about 0700 I am processing and usually keep having for about 4 hours here and there. I am just so glad to not be constipated.
IF you have close relatives (like siblings) consider asking..... I had never heard of it and I could have just asked one of my siblings...... anyway, I do not have any side-effects as far as I can tell after 7+ months.

I was on Linzess for years... I found out my bp was high on it. Keep an eye on your bp. It worked but has you glued to a bathroom for many hours to be able to leave the house. I am like this without it too... miserable and I can't sleep.
Just liquid diarrhea with Linzess.
Good luck

What do you do now to manage your constipation?

Taking four stool softeners a day, two Triphala 500 mg, two Magnesium Oxide 200 mg at night, then supplementing with Senna once or twice a week. More when traveling. Still miserable but not sure what else to do.

Linzess work for me for about a year but then it quit helping. I’ve tried everything. Now I take Isabella. I’ve been on it about 2 years and it’s one extreme or the other for me and a daily balancing act. At first two doses a day was too much and I would go like 10 times so went to one. Then sometimes I’d have to take the second pill because I didn’t go any. Then it got where I was taking both doses every day to go once or twice. Then that started not working for many days so Dr added Miralax 2 times a day which was way too much so went to one time a day but back up to 2 times a day and some days I’m having to do a cap full and a half in morning a one at night. Anyways, I have to keep a log of what and how much I took and how much it made me go then I know how to adjust the miralax the next day. Honestly I’d rather have diarrhea then to not go for 2 weeks then the only thing that would work was a colonoscopy prep and a couple enemas which was tough.
I hope you get something figured out and stay super hydrated taking these meds.

Hi, I'm currently taking Linzess 290mg and at first I would get severe stomach aches, so I thought to myself no way am I taking this every day, so I started taking it every 3 days. BIG mistake. The stomach pains came worse. Now I've been taking it every day and at first yes I had stomach cramps due to my intestines moving but it started being more effective now that I'm taking it every day. I have had bowel movements every day instead of being backed up and miserable. I did find that taking this pill is better than taking laxatives or miralax.

Hello @melissaeckert8915 and welcome to Mayo Connect. I appreciate you sharing your experience with taking Linzess. How long have you been taking this medication? Had you tried other prescription medications prior to this?

I’m not giving medical I’m not a doctor but I was very ill for a few years with irritable bowel syndrome. And my breakthrough came after I listened to a radio host speaking about this very thing and . He said try eating green grapes more often. But only the ones that are good and ripe not sour!
Whatever natural medicine is in good green grapes it wasn’t long I was doing much better. And I still buy them especially when they are sweet and ripe. I feel you on this my time with that sickness was not fun!!! I’m not everyone’s recovery is the exact same but I hope this experience will greatly help you.

Trying linzess for redundant colon and CIC. Causing bloat and weight gain

REPLY

For CIC and IBS-D:
I'm not happy with linzess-side effects like bloating and feeling distended and FAT. and trulance doesn't work at all.
Is anyone out there using water irrigation or enema or on a daily basis instead of medication?
I have a reductant colon and impacted feces. Not sure what else to do. Suggestions? many thanks, Lupejoan
