Recommendations for nebulizer machine

Posted by positivethinking @positivethinking, Dec 30, 2024

I have been using a Respironics Inspire for the past year for ipratropium and sodium chloride 7%. I think my machine is on its way out since it has gotten very loud. Any recommendations for a good nebulizer that can handle the sodium chloride and other medication would be appreciated. I’ve read that some people like the Ombra tabletop machine. Is this a good one for nebulizing the sodium chloride? I have read that with some machines the sodium chloride causes clogging. Thank you in advance

I tried to send two photos of the aeroeclipse attached to the Aerobika and how they can be used together with the Ombra but it looks like they didn’t come through. I would suggest contacting Monaghan, the manufacturer of these products. Their customer service is very helpful (1-800-833-9653. They can walk you through it. My doctor at National Jewish Health at Mount Sinai suggested I use the aeroeclipse with the Aerobika when I nebulize the sodium chloride. I would check with your dad’s physician. The Aerobika is also helpful when used separately for airway clearance

I noticed that Monaghan website has good pics of Aerobika connected to Aeroeclipse nebulizer when selecting “Designed to work together” near the bottom of their products webpage. My dad doesn’t have his initial appointment with his pulmonologist until May 20th so he’ll likely wait to discuss getting/using the Aerobika in tandem with the Aeroeclipse and/or separately for airway clearance. He’s definitely enjoying using his new OMBRA/Aeroeclipse combo using the breath activated setting and noticed the treatment lasts far longer compared with using the Amazon mesh nebulizer! About 20 mins rather than 5 mins when using a 4 ml vial of 7% saline! I’ll be calling Monaghan today to see if they offer a mask version (I don’t see one on their website) or can recommend a competitor who offers one with breath activation since he’s not getting the vapors through his nasal passages which seemed to help open them up when using mask with the mesh nebulizer that we just returned to Amazon cuz it stopped working abruptly after just 2 weeks 🙁

I agree that it’s best to check with his physician when he sees him in May. I find my sodium chloride 7% 4mL vial takes approximately 13-15 min. I don’t know if using the Aerobika with the aeroeclipse has shortened that time because that’s the way I have always used it. I find using the sodium chloride the way I am doing it helps clear out my post nasal drip. Interesting question about the mask. I hope they do have something compatible with the Ombra. Good luck

Thank you. Turns out I was wrong when I said it takes my dad about 20 mins now with his new OMBRA/Aeroeclipse neb compared to 5 mins (using mesh) when using 4 ml of 7% sodium chloride, he said it’s only ~15 mins. Sounds like it takes about the same time with or without the Aerobika attached. Monaghan says they do offer a mask that my dad can use with his Aeroeclipse in place of the mouthpiece, but Renee is waiting to hear back from their reps in the St Pete area to let us know where we can get one. Apparently Monaghan typically only sell them to hospitals since most home users don’t request/prefer a mask like my dad does. Should hear back from her tomorrow. Thanks for sharing feedback regarding your combination helps clear out post nasal drip too. That’s helpful for my dad to know. We truly appreciate all of the assistance you’ve provided - we understand far more than we did just a few days ago regarding nebulizing. May God bless you & yours!

Thank you for sharing that quality mesh machines do exist and the fact they’re pricey, but currently priced 30% off regular prices at that website you shared! I’ll pass that on to my dad, but suspect he’ll want to stay with his OMBRA/Aeroeclipse arrangement for now. It seems that some here and MANY elsewhere online say the mesh type are not well suited for those who frequently neb with 7% sodium chloride, apparently due to higher chance of clogging even when cleaning the device after each use. Not sure how accurate that is, but it seems that many have that perception. Thank you again for sharing. Cheers!

I’m glad to hear that they offer a mask for some patients. This Mayo Clinic Connect site offers a lot of information in all areas that I find helpful. Good luck to your dad and family

Good morning, I showed my dad some benefits of adding OPEP therapy last night by using the Aerobika and he was very impressed by the benefits so he wants to get one to use with his Aeroeclipse nebulizer now rather than waiting another month for his initial appointment with his pulmonologist. Looks like Tampa Specialty Pharmacy sells them for $59. I was wondering if you use the model that has the meter on it which helps the user know how hard to exhale? If so, do you find it useful? Your input with this is much appreciated since we currently don’t know anyone else who uses the Aerobika other than you and we plan to drive to Tampa later this morning to get the device. Thanks again, Scott

Just a FYI, I bought an Aerobika with the meter but unfortunately when I did my routine boiling process it warped and became unusable. All other parts of Aerobika are able to be boiled without a problem. Just wanted to let you know because that meter added extra cost.

Oh I’m sorry to hear that, but thank you sharing this with all of us! If my dad opts for the metered version we’ll be sure to remove it (if possible) or choose another option for weekly disinfection. Thank you so much for this info, it’s much appreciated! Cheers, Scott

I’m curious if you liked using it with the meter before it stopped functioning from being warped during boiling? I think my dad might just go ahead and get it since it’s only $10 more ($80 vs $70 w/o meter at Tampa Specialty Pharmacy ) but it’ll take a few days for them to get the metered one in from Monaghan, whereas they have the non-metered version in stock which we could go pick up today. Your feedback on whether the metered version was beneficial for you or not will be helpful for my dad to decide whether or not to wait on that model or just get the other today. Thank you again, your thoughts on this is much appreciated! Take care, Scott
