Do Not Resuscitate Orders, ID Bracelets & Experiences
Do you have a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate Order) with your primary care physician? Do you wear a medical ID bracelets/necklace with DNR instructions? What experiences have you (or if you are a caregiver) had with Medical IDs, specifically with the DNR orders? Is there anything critically important that you should consider before you put this on your id and what has happened to people who wear it. (I mean do the EMTs follow instructions?) Appreciate insights.

Just before cancer surgery, a nurse applied a similar bracelet to one they apply at hospital check-in. It was orange with large black letters that read "limb alert". Once lymph nodes are removed, they don't like to draw blood, take blood pressure, etc. on that arm. I've had so many nurses thank me when I'm "out" and unable to remind them.
When I am at the infusion center and get my blood pressure checked or getting a blood test the nurses always ask if it matters which arm they use. I never knew why she asked so thanks for the information.
@katherine65 I have a non-working fistula in my lower right arm. There is not supposed to be blood pressure taken, nor lab draws on that arm. I actually have a silicone bracelet to wear that states that! And never forget to verbally remind staff of the same thing. Proving again we need to be our own advocates.
