Anyone deal with Acid Reflux or GERD after lobectomy?

Posted by Hawaiigirl0906 @demo0052, Dec 22, 2023

I had a bilobectomy in July 2023 and since I had experienced a dry cough that worsens at night and acid reflux. I haven’t dealt with reflux since my pregnancies. I will be seeing a pulmonologist at Mayo soon to help figure out the cough but I’m guessing it’s coming from GERD now. My thoracic surgeon brought me back for a bronchoscopy in October and it was clear so apparently the cough isn’t coming from something in the lungs. Anyone else experience GERD or reflux since lobectomy?

@klinden, the GERD you're experiencing sounds miserable. Have you found any relief?

Very little. I’ve tried everything. The only thing that gives me some relief is Kombucha. I can’t believe it. Waiting for h-pylori pathology test results. Done during endoscopy.

I use a homeopathic product for Acid - Hyland's No 10 (Natrium Phosphate) Also, Life Extension has a product called Esophageal Guardian ( you chew it and swallow with water and it forms a "raft" on top of the acid so it does not go into the Esophagus). I have used both for years and they work well. See LifeExtension.com

There's also a product called Reflux Raft that actually tastes good. It forms a raft with alginate. I assume this is the active ingredient in Esophageal Guardian. The bronchiectasis community has been dealing with so called silent reflux (reflux without the burning) because it could be a cause for the scarring we have. If acid reflux is aspirated, it damages lung tissue.

Yes, same ingredient. I also use DGL which was recommended to me by a Naturopath many years ago.
