Thanks for the information. I have NK in one eye brought on by eye surgery which gives you extremely dry eyes. I tried Restasis for about 6 months, did nothing. I tried MEIBO and only used it a few times and hated the heavy feeling on my eye. I also have had the best results with Xiidra which is to combat inflammation.
Yes, I have been dealing with dry eyes for 40 years! I use Allergan's Refresh Celluvisc preservative free eye drops (artificial tears) many times during the day and night time ointment at night. Years ago, I tried Restasis which I discontinued because of severe stinging and burning. Just had an appointment with my over 80 now retiring ophthalmologist who recommended trying Xiidra (lifitegrast ophthalmic solution) which recently became available in Canada. Was just about to start a discussion group to get feedback on Xiidra.
I also tried Restasis years ago as recommended by a new ophthalmologist. I couldn’t stand the burnng and stinging. She recommended keeping the drops in the fridge to alleviate those side effects but that didn’t work for me. I’ve used so many eye drops but it seems that they all end up irritating my eyes after a period of time. So I switch brands and always buy the preservative free kinds. Is Xiidra by prescription only?

I take orally every day sea buckthorn oil gel caps and a fish oil supplement and they help tremendously.
I also use Systane ultra hydration PF eye drops. All the prescription eye drops didn’t work. I also do warm compresses
on my eyes twice per day. Systane eye ointment is good to use prior to bedtime and also if your having extreme irritation in your dry eyes. My dry eyes developed after having multi focal lens replacement. I didn’t have cataracts I just wanted to see without my glasses. Now because of the severe dry eyes my far vision is affected and I avoid driving interstate because I can’t see the signs until I’m right up on them and the varying light from outside affects the clarity of my vision. I see we’ll close up and indoors with suttle lighting. I wasn’t told all this ant the consultation because it’s a money making business and I spent 10,700 out of pocket for these lenses. I now also can’t drive at night because the lights on the cars are astronomically glaring and reach out 10feet in circles and I can’t see due to the almost blinding glares;so now I don’t drive at night. I should have stuck with my glasses or just got the close vision lenses and use glasses to drive, but then again the dry eyes from the lens implants may still have caused a dry eye issue. I’m 65 and had this done at age 61.

I have severely dry eyes due to Lupus and Crohn's Disease. Both from the disease process themselves and the medications I take to treat them. I have tried all sorts of over the counter drops to begin with without any success at all. At one point my eyes were so bad they ended up having to put plugs in my tear ducts to relieve the dryness because it had caused so much advanced irritation to my eyes. They kept the plugs in for 3 months. This worked great on one hand. The dryness ended completely within a week to 10 days because all your tears come out directly onto your eye instead of through the duct (because it's blocked by the plug.). The major downside is #1) you have tears basically pouring down your face every moment of the day and night 🌙. #2) It's not a permanent solution because yo can't keep the plugs in indefinitely and once taken out, it's only a month or so before the chronic dryness sets back in. I also tried the prescription eye drops Restasis without any success at all. They actually seemed to make my eyes feel dryer if that was humanly possible? So, I wasn't too excited when recently my ophthalmologist recommended yet another prescription drop. This one is called Xiidra. I really disliked it at first because it has a significant itchy/stinging sensation upon application that lasts a minute or so. I have found though that the less dry my eyes became, the less problem I had with this side effect. I've been on the drops (to be used twice daily which is pretty convenient) for about 3 weeks now and the itching/burning sensation upon application is completely gone. And, my eyes are feeling the least dry that I can ever remember them feeling. Not quite at 100% just yet, but hey it's only been 3 weeks. I'm feeling really good about these drops. Also of note.... The whole reason I went to my doctor asking for a prescription for drops to begin with was because I saw a commercial for an even newer, more advanced drop that works by forming a protective layer or coating over your eye to keep moisture in. It's the first drop of its kind supposedly. It must really be amazing because my doctor informed me that to qualify for it for insurance you must have tried and failed at least 2 other types of prescription eye drops and have a true diagnosis of chronic dry eyes. Otherwise it's $1400 - $1800 for a month supply. Thus my prescription for the Xiidra. I just love the way it all works. Lol.
Hi I've had severe I mean severe dry eyes for som time. Nothing helped until I was introduced by my Corniya Specialist serum treatment. It's a life saver. It works like this I have 12 viles of blood drawn once a month. Over 5 hours the plasma is cleaned from the blood and they create 5 eye drop bottles from that. I than put 4 of those bottles in the freezer. One bottle is kept in the fridge as I put 1 drop in each eye every 2 hours 8 times a day. At night o put a gel before I go to sleep under each eye. The eye drops are enough for a month and a bit. Every 4 months I'm seen by the Corniya Specialist in the hospital clinic and the same treatment comtiues for the rest of my life. I'm only 45 yrs old and have been on this treatment for the last 2 years as of now. It works and you are being treated via your own body. Amazing ever and approved by the FDA .

Thank you. My cornea specialist has suggested I try this. I have neuro keratitis brought on by surgery over 3 years ago. I have tried everything: Meibo, restatis, OTC and Xiidra. I even completed a 8 week treatment called oxervate to regenerate nerves. I still have very dry eye with foreign body and burning sensation. I like the idea of using your own body fluid. Are the drops oily feeling and why do you need to use the drops 8 times daily?
I was diagnosed with Sjorgrens Syndrome many years ago (2008). They had prescribed Restasis Eye Drops twice a day to help your eyes produce fluid and Pilocarpine to help with dry mouth. I'm still on the same scripts. I can't say they work great but my Sjorgrens is related to Rheumatoid Arthritis and seems to come and go. The Pilocarpine was unpleasant for me. After taking it I would get the sweats and be very cold. I'm not sure this info. will help anybody but send my best wishes to all for the battles we fight daily.🌷
I have used Refesh products. PM at night and one of there other drops during the day. Be sure it get the individual containers it is the safest

Yes it is prescription only. It fights inflammation, it helps me more than restasis, Meibo or OTC drops.
In Canada Xiidra costs about $200US dollars for a month''s supply. Someone is making a huge profit in the US!
Yes, definitely the big pharma! It’s a shame! Other countries drugs prices are wayyyyyy lower than the US

My eye doctor recommends any kind of artificial tears and for itchy/scratchy eyes, Alaway eye drops (works quickly and is such a relief).
