Posted by wrmeador @wrmeador, Feb 13 3:09pm

I am a 78 yo male. My pulmonarist said it is very specious because it has grown i n size to 1.5 cm.
I will go to Charleston va hospital soon.
He said a biopsby is not require because it is spiculaüted and grown in 1 year.
I will have a pet scan and then minimum invasive surgery to remove it. Chemo is not
off the tabled. i alsohave DVTs in my right leg, which im taking Eliquist. [second time in 12yrs when i had leukemia. ]
In 1966 i was in the Army basic training, while there i came down with pneumonia and coughing up blood. Since then xrays awayed showed a scar. I read that a lung scar can turn maglignant. sorry for ms.

I don't know, I read the report and it didn't mention mutations

wrmeador, chemo for my EGFR cancer was very different from what friends with lymphoma and breast cancer have had. It’s apparently the combination of chemicals that matters. I didn’t lose any hair. Worst side effects were nausea - which was pretty well managed with anti-nausea meds including steroids - and a terrible taste in my mouth - ginger chews and lemon drops plus some fatigue. First few days after infusion were OK. Days 4-9 were the worst. Hang in there.

I had my first lung Chemo with Carboplatin and 2 others. The only symptoms I had were feeling weak and a rash from Zarxio injections for a week at home. no itching though.

Did the biopsy of the tumor show a mutation that can be treated through a targetted therapy drug? For example, if you have the EGFR mutation, Tagrisso, taken daily, can target the cancer, to the point of no evidence of disease (NED). I have been on Tagrisso for five years, have been NED, until recently, still taking the drug as the spread is indolent at this point in time. I wish you all the best in figuring out your situation. One definitely has to advocate for oneself.

The biopsy showed a TTF-1 weak positive.

"A "weakly positive" result for TTF-1 (Thyroid Transcription Factor 1) in immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining typically indicates that the protein is present in the tissue sample, but the staining intensity is lower than what is considered a strong positive. This staining level can be influenced by factors like the concentration of the antibody used, the amount of TTF-1 protein present in the tissue, and the staining technique itself" Whatever this means ?

@wrmeador, Ouch. You mentioned a rash from a Zarxio injection. Do the doctors think this is related or a separate reaction?
The pathology report regarding the TTF-1 protein sounds a bit wishy washy. 😉 It's not over the top positive, but not non-existent either. I'd be interested to know how your doctors interpret the result. Studies tend to point to better survival rates when the TTF-1 is positive. But we are not statistics either. I find the studies like these interesting, but I also try to keep in mind that they don't always apply to one person's situation.

the er doc said since my immunity system is lower now from chemo, fungus infections have a better chance of developing. Your whole body is crawling with dormant fungi, so when the condition are ripe they can emerge. Thats what happened when i had leukemia, the fungi in my mouth errupted in THRUSH, a white coating inside the entire .mouth, and its very painfull and makes swallowing pills very difficult.

@wrmeador, Sorry to hear that your struggles continue, but know that we are all here pulling for you, wishing you better days ahead. Hopefully they can get the infections under control so they can figure out what's next to fight the tumor. When you feel up to it, have you had a second opinion on the treatment plan?
