Low Oxygen Levels, Has Anyone Not Been Able to Get Diagnosis

Posted by SusanEllen66 @SusanEllen66, Apr 14 1:26am

How can I have 02 levels that average 91, and nothing is apparently wrong.

I have had a checkup with my cardio, pulmonary, kidney and neurologist. They can’t find anything wrong.

I feel short of breath, I get clamy, I’m exhausted.

My brain isn’t getting enough oxygen, and I already have dementia…

That is a different approach!

My lungs are good. GERD causes coughing at night, but I take liquid Mylanta before bed and that really helps.

Since you have GERD, are you being treated for it other than OTC Mylanta? Have you tried working with a dietitian/nutritionist to reduce GERD? Have you tried to elevate yourself with pillows/angle wedge?

Does your bloodwork show any abnormalities, deficiencies or toxicities?

I’m sorry to hear this—having an average of 91% oxygen saturation rate is definitely abnormal. Is there a good large teaching hospital near you where you can go to get a full evaluation? Bring all your evaluations so far and let them sort it out. It’s really important to figure this out—maybe pulmonary arterial hypotension?

Thank you everyone.
Here are a few answers. My general health is not terrific so I take medicine for several things, none of it except for one is new. I will check on it.
My GERD is controlled by a Rx drug.
I paint with acrylics on small canvas just about everyday. I have glued wood laminate flooring through out the condo.
I had COVID twice.
Because I have nose allergies, I stay inside when the pollen count is high.

Now here is a good possibility, about 3 years ago I was on Methotrexate, and my oxygen levels were low. The diagnosis was Ground Glass Opacity in my lungs. I stopped the methotrexate and they said my lungs healed.

I don’t know anymore.

If it were me, I would ask for a cpap with supplemental oxygen when I sleep and use supplemental oxygen during the day. Lack of oxygen to your brain will make dementia worse.

@dlydailyhope thank you. I’ve been through a sleep study. I don’t have sleep apnea.
Medicare will not pay for oxygen unless you are at 88% or less.

Have you seen a pulmonologist/respiratory therapist? The goal is increasing your oxygen intake. You may not have sleep apnea but your breathing may not be deep enough or frequent enough to take in enough oxygen while sleeping or during the day. Your body may be forgetting to breath sometimes or not be as efficient.

Here are some ways to increase oxygen levels beyond medical grade oxygen.

I saw my cousin today. He is a doctor (oncologist).
I told him about my o2 “problem”. He said that 91 was not a cause for concern.
So, I’m going to put it aside for now.

Dementia, any kind is terminal. I am trying to spend my time doing things
I want to do…that’s important to me.

Okay then, let's try another variable. You said that you live in a condo. Would you know if the flooring was put down with any type of a glue? Inhaling adhesive fumes could result in serious complications. From what I have read, even short-term exposure can cause headaches, nausea, and respiratory issues.

I had a saddle pulmonary embolism a year ago. They are running test on me right now because of my oxygen dropping low and they are not sure why. I have severe panic disorder and the test are overwhelming to me. Dr walked me 100 yds and my oxygen went from96 to 83. Anyone else with this problem. Thank you!
