I have melanoma, operated on in 2022. Since then they’ve been watching lung nodules grow in each scan. Now, the largest one is 11mm. There are several smaller ones as well. My oncologist wants me to have the biopsy but everything I’ve read shows it to be much more risky with COPD. Being an ICU nurse I’m sure you’ve likely seen people who had problems following a lung biopsy. Yes, I’m very nervous about it given the risks. I’m wondering if a bronchoscopy would be an alternative? I’m so nervous that I started smoking again! Anything further you could share would be great.

I have COPD and also needed a lung biopsy. It went well and I was fine after the procedure. I hope it goes well for you. And I get the smoking again! So give yourself a break.

PET scans are easy. They inject some dye(?) into the arm and then you wait for an hour or so while it goes through your system. Scan takes about 20 minutes. Hardest part was nothing but water for 6 hours so I made it as early in the morning as I could. Best part was that I didn't have to drink the barium!

Prayers for you, from my heart. I’m so sorry to read your diagnosis.
Did you previously have cancer, like myself? That is why I’m having the biopsy as I had melanoma which they feel is now that there’s metastasis or lung cancer.
After all you went through with the biopsy and now this news is most difficult. My thoughts are with you and please keep us posted on what the oncologist says.

I’m glad it went well for you. No complications I assume.
May I ask if you were smoking at the time the biopsy was done? It really scares me because my COPD is severe.

When they did the biopsy I had a pneumothorax they put a chest tube in and I stayed in the hospital 4 days. They put me on 4 liters of oxygen to help my lung fill .Yes I was smoking at the time .I also have severe emphysema along with COPD.I also have diabetes it may not be bad for you I am also 72 years old. Hope all goes well for you ,,Brenda

Hate to admit it but yes. I was smoking at the time. And there were no complications.

I assume that you are concerned about the nodule, not the PET scan, and if it is cancer, I had a 3.2 centimeter nodule on a CT scan and it was squamous cell carcinoma... The good news is what ever you have is in early stage, I had 6 weeks of chemo, once a week and 30 rounds of radiation and started immuno therapy, I just had another pet scan and there is no uptake, so the cancer is in remission..I am on immuno therapy and I also have COPD... good luck and feel free to ask questions.

You were wright my doctor said it was a very small nodule and was in the early stages he said he would give me 5 radiation treatments .I hope that will get rid of all the cancer Be blessed
