Mesenteric Panniculitis: What happens now?

Posted by lisacw @lisacw, Apr 13, 2022

Just got diagnosed from CT scan and really can’t find a whole lot of information. I have been put on steroids and it has helped some with the pain from the inflammation. I want to know more about my diagnosis and be for sure that this is exactly what I got. My question is what steps do I take now? Should I call my primary Dr. And request a MRI to make sure that I don’t have any underlying condition or get with a gastric Dr. I just had a colonoscopy the first of last year.

@elfergin

I should mention, I requested appointment(s) at the Rochester location in MN.

Hi, @elfergin - dealing with digestive issues since you were little sounds like a lot. And getting no answers or hitting dead ends would indeed be frustrating.

I've merged your discussion with this one here which is also about getting an appointment at Mayo Clinic for digestive concerns. I thought this way you could connect with others discussing similar issues.

I have found personally that when a Mayo Clinic department says they will send me offers of appointment times as openings arise when no appointments are available, they do send me appointment offers. So that function seems to work well, and I've gotten an appointment that way.

Some people will call the appointment number for a given department they want to get an appointment in every day to find out if any openings have come up.

It can be helpful if your primary care or gastroenterologist contacts Mayo Clinic to refer you. Have you had the chance to ask if one of your doctors will do that?

I have submitted the form to get an appointment at Mayo Clinic (3) times. I’m contacted by phone each time. We review my symptoms I’ve been suffering with for one year and multiple test results that diagnose Mesenteric Panniculitis, and then the Mayo Clinic representative tells me they are not scheduling any appointments for 2025 and there is no wait list.. Ughhh! Has anyone else been told this??

Thanks for your response, I have not asked one of my doctors to refer me there as Mayo does not require it, but maybe that's a good idea!

Erika here! In Alaska!I have been dealing with digestive issues since I was a little girl. I am 31 y/o now and am tired of getting no answers or hitting dead ends. I was diagnosed with stomach ulcers many years ago and more recently a hiatal hernia that no doctor wants to repair.Back tracking, I was born 2 months prematurely and doctors are considering that that has influence on the issues I have had since a young age. At 4, I vomited a bowel obstruction after not having a bowel movement for 30 days. Since then? Nothing but problems. Constipation my entire life, every medication? Tried it. I have finally decided to reach out to Mayo to attempt to have my questions answered and I look forward to hopefully getting scheduled.When I requested the appointment, they put me on a wait-list and told me the next 12 weeks are booked solid, and to continue checking my patient portal for offers. Did any of you do anything different? Did you call often to see if there were openings? Did you not call at all? I am trying to be proactive and wondering what everyone else is doing.Thanks in advance.

Depending of insurance, Any Medicaid plan has a rule about availability of consult time. One can file a violation claim if care is delayed and plan should coordinate care, even if they must transport you to an appropriate facility outside their geographic area.
