Fortibone for Osteoporosis

Have anyone tried collagen with Fortibone for their Osteoporosis? If so, did it help?

As others have pointed out, the two studies examining the effectiveness of Fortibone were funded by Gelita which produces Fortibone. I’m less concerned about the funding because the majority of the researchers were identified as working for University of Freiburg. Their final research manuscript likely went through peer-review to be accepted for publication in the scientific journal Nutrition. As a retired academic researcher, I’ve been involved in studies funded by organizations who sent out requests for research proposals to evaluate their product. This is a common model for researchers in my field of study to receive funding this way. I can’t speak for other researchers, but I know that I could only evaluate the measures I collected. I wouldn’t manipulate the numbers to make it appear favorable for the funder. My data was open-source meaning that I had to provide my data to any researcher so they could evaluate my claims. This helps to keep researchers honest. The pressure to publish is enormous in academic research.

I am concerned about the very small effect sizes the researchers found. While the findings were statistically significant, the effect sizes (i.e., increase in bone markers) were negligible. However, I have osteoporosis and I am breaking bones, so I’m using Fortibone because, at this point, I’ll try just about any promised magic with hopes that it will help my bones. I recently switched to the product sold by Dr. McCormick because it’s only Fortibone and that’s all I want.

If I don’t see an improvement in my next DEXA, which is in a year, I may stop Fortibone.

Lastly, I hope other researchers replicate the study to evaluate the original findings, but it appears that science doesn't value replication.

Off my soapbox.

@mev123, just seeing this post from just about 1 year ago re: fortibone. I started taking it in January and am wondering if you can share if you have had a follow up dexa scan as yet? Thank you

I looked at the Algae Cal Fortebone formula and it is identical to my regular collagen peptides. All marketing, I'm afraid.

I saw the research for fortibone, but it isn’t compared with other products.

Hello, how have you felt since taking the college? I want to stop taking prolis due to side effects.

I am currently taking Key Collagen sold by Nutrikey. It has 5 mg of FORTIBONE and it also has three other types of collagen peptides by Gelita.

In a few days, I will run out of Key Collagen and I'm switching to a product with 5 mg of FORTIBONE only. This product is sold by Dr. R. Keith McCormick. It's called Osteo Collagen-Pep. I'm switching because it is less expensive than the product by Nutrikey and I'm not convinced collagen peptides are effective so I only want the FORTIBONE.
I don't know if it's working, yet. My next DEXA scan will be in a year. I've been taking FORTIBONE for six months. The two studies that I know of participants took it for a year.

Hello -
My doc didn't want me to have another dexa when I saw him July 2024. He said it was too soon and I didn't need the exposure to more radiation.

Anyway, I'm still taking Fortibone through the collagen I get from Nutrikey. I'm going to ask again for another dexa when I see him in July 2025.

I hope this helps.

Hi,
I just started taking this too. I'm optimistic about the results. I also take Algaecal Plus.

I started taking Osteo Collagen-Pep (Fortibone) from Dr. McCormick's site back in late November, or early December. It's really good quality at a great price. Whether or not it's helping, I can't say because I've made so many changes (medication, diet, supplements, exercise and stress reduction) that any or all of them could be adding benefits.
I am doing something right. My first DEXA was in January of last year. I had my second DEXA two weeks ago, and it showed a 7.2% improvement in my spine. The hip is unchanged (not worse :))
I guess the only way to know if Fortibone specifically is making a difference is to only take that and do nothing else. I just take it because it MAY help, and it doesn't seem to be doing any harm. The way that I see it is that even if each thing I'm doing to better my bone metabolism works to a small degree, together it could add up to a significant improvement.

It's so good to read that you had an improved DEXA after making a number of changes. Would you be willing to share what you have done in terms of diet, supplements, exercise and stress reduction? Many thanks!
