Hormone Replacement starting at 75yrs old
Doing reach, I have decided to try HRT with testosterone, very low dose. I’m in pretty good health, but was diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rhuematica 2yrs ago. I’m Just trying to make a better life with what yrs I have left. There are so many positive messages out there, and yes I’m on the older side. I have 6 daughters and we have all been doing a lot of reading on this subject. Is there anyone else trying HRT at an older age?

I took it for symptoms of interstitial cystitis which was essentially burning, itching, and frequent urination like a UTI but I didn’t have a UTI. I was miserable for months until I started the estradiol cream and then it went away.
Do you mind telling me the amount you are using and how often you use it ? I am finding that the estrogen cream has its own side effects.?I think if I didn’t use it as often as my gynecologist suggested it wouldn’t bother me as much .
Sure will - I'll keep you posted. I'm just praying I'm on the right road and will be feeling better soon. After the fiasco with my primary care doctor, who absolutely refused to consider HRT because he was concerned about heart attacks or breast cancer, I remember thinking that either one of those two conditions would be better than the way I'm living now!
Thank you. This is encouraging. I, too, have had no results from the Osteo meds. I am interested in pursuing HRT to help me.
At the recommendation of my urologist, I used a large pearl-sized dollop every other day until the symptoms started to subside. Then, I continued for a few weeks at twice a week. I was amazed at the success as I had been suffering for several months. Now, I use it only as needed if I feel symptoms starting to come on, and that’s usually only for a week. It was a miracle for me as I haven't had symptoms in almost a year.
Thanks 😊 for that info . Thats what iam using too . So i am hoping it will stop the itching and burning as well . Mostly i was taking it so i wont have bleeding after lumbar steroid shot .. here’s hoping 🤞
Hope it helps you!!
Thanks me too .cheers Vikki
I love hearing your story. I have been menopausal for 25 years after going into early menopause at 41. Like you I was told at the time HRT was too dangerous - and almost instantly I went on to develop the full welter of debilitating post menopausal conditions - though its only recently I realised my problems were directly due to estrogen deprivation ; osteoporosis, severe vaginal dystrophy, zero libido, over active bladder that only made my chronic insomnia worse ,anxiety and panic attacks, and bouts of depression. I have five sisters, all younger than me, who were put on to HRT in their early 50s, , well within the "safe" 10 year window. They all have osteoporosis too. After years of believing I had well and truly missed the HRT window I was recently prescribed low dose estrogen and progesterone for my osteoporosis and I can only say it feels almost miraculous. Every one of my problems is far less acute - insomnia lessened, bladder ect. And I just feel like an "edge" has been taken off so that I feel calmer and happier and less agitated. No idea what it will do for my bones yet. And I do worry there is some evidence (unclear) of a slight increase in dementia and cardiovascular problems given my late start. But for quality of life, I am happy to take that risk.
New guidelines for GSM (genitourinary syndrome of menopause) came out yesterday.
