Bad allergies but haven't found an allergy med I can use
I'm having terrible spring allergies that are going to get worse over the next two months. I'm using eye drops for the itching but when I take Zyrtec, Claritin or others like it I get nosebleeds that sometimes last more than half an hour. The last one scared me so much I almost went to the E.R. but it finally stopped.
I stopped taking these meds and no more nosebleeds but my allergies are awful. I've got an air purifier and change my clothes immediately when coming in from outside.
Anyone have any ideas of what else I might do to get through the allergy season?

@scottbeammeup Would you consider testing and allergy shots ? I have done this and it helps. My function medicine doctor tests each thing and formulates a vile of antigen to be injected. I was trained to do my own injections. It also helps to use HEPA filters at home and eliminate anything that could be increasing allergic inflammation.
Hi @scottbeammeup - having terrible spring allergies seems really challenging. I have allergies, too, but mine are not seasonal.
Did a physician weigh in on what was causing your nosebleeds from cetirizine (Zyrtec) and loratadine (Claritin) and similar medications? Other than the itchy eyes, what spring allergy symptoms are bothering you the most?
He says that they are drying my sinuses too much and I'm already predisposed to nosebleeds (have had multiple cauteries). I did try using Neosporin to see if it would lubricate the inside of my nose and prevent bleeding but it hasn't worked.
The worst symptoms I'm getting is are a stuffy nose and lots of sneezing, though the itchy eyes were the worst and that can at least be controlled with eyedrops.
Tagging a few Connect members who have mentioned seasonal allergies. They may have ideas of a medication you might try for stuffy nose and lots of sneezing without getting a nosebleed: @SusanEllen66 @fab44 @jcwest211 @momx5dea @fourof5zs . @ansley @jfn @dustycat52 and @dserro also may have some thoughts for you, @scottbeammeup.
Hi @scottbeammeup,
I have allergies and then some. I take Xyzal (2x) with Singulair (2x) and Flonase (2x). I use sea spray and a baby humidifier at night. I do not have that many nosebleeds anymore. My son was driving and had a nose bleed so bad he pulled into a driveway (rural area) a person came out and he thought that my son had been attacked, there was so much blood. The person provided my son with a roll of paper towels and ice. We put the ice under the nose while squeezing the nose with the head back. It worked! I just threw his clothes out. There was just so much blood. Now he travels with a nose bleed kit, and has not had in the truck for a couple of years. Yes, he has allergies too.

I’ve had terrible nose allergies for most of my life. I’m 75 now and I have tried just about everything.
All those “allergy” meds did for me was make me sleepy, dry my eyes, dry my nose and I hated all of it.
For me, saline (salt) water is by far the best. It moisturizes, and just clears out the junk. One rather new issue with making your own salt water is very important. Do not use tap water! Only distilled water or buy a nasal spray.
Tap water may have bacteria and will cause major problems with your brain.
I like Vick’s saline in a can. It helps almost immediately, and can be used as much as you need.
Dry eyes, I use Refresh drops.
If I can, during blooming season I keep windows and doors shut. I take a shower, and make sure to wash my hair when returning from outside.
Keep it simple…achoo!
