Turmeric as an anti-inflammatory

Posted by coffcoff @coffcoff, Apr 2 10:48am

I'm wondering if anyone is taking turmeric supplements as an anti-inflammatory agent for their bronchiectasis. It's reported to be helpful to counteract inflammation elsewhere in the body but I don't know if it would be effective in the lungs. If you know of or heard of any info on this I'd appreciate your sharing with us. Thanks!

Oh gosh. I asked my smartest friend about this (AI) and got a core dump of interesting information. It looks like it's worth a try but there are precautions such as blood thinning. Keep us posted if you try it. I think I've also seen studies on its positive effects on inflammation. Not sure if it helps with bronchiectasis but it seems worth a try. It's been discussed here prior to your post and worth a search in this forum.

Thanks. Looks like I need to do a little more research before I try it.

Google about the potential side effects if you take too much or take it every day etc. I use it in cooking here and there rather than take it as a pill.

I do take Turmeric, however, I limit what I take. My last C Scan showed less inflammation. Don't know what helped because we do other things to help with the inflammation and mucus clearing.
Just like mucus is a good thing until you have BE, anything that becomes too much of is, as we know, a problem. Turmeric in small doses is something to give thought to. My endocrinologist said to me when I told him I take Turmeric, "I need to be taking it as well."

I’ve been taking curcumin (turmeric) since November from a company called Thorne. I’ve used it in the past with no improvement, but this time it’s really working for joint pain. I feel like a new person. I suspect it’s also working on lungs as I’m getting better but can’t be sure whether it’s from the curcumin or other treatments. Thorne is a good company because they include black pepper in the pills and curcumin can’t be absorbed without an accompanying absorption agent. I think that’s why it’s been working this time.

What dose do you take? Have you experienced any side effects? Easy bruising?

I’m taking 1000 mg per day. No side effects at all, but I believe we’re supposed to check with our doctors to be sure there aren’t interactions with other medicines.

Glad you mentioned Thorne. I came across it and had not heard of it before but read some about it and it did sound like they are third party inspected, do you know if that is correct? I haven't ordered anything from them as yet and glad to hear they have the black pepper in the supplement.

Thank you so very much for your post. I have been experiencing increased knee pain due to arthritis. I have heard, many times, turmeric is helpful but I never did anything about it. Your post gave me the nudge I needed.
I looked up Thorne and reviews were quite favorable i.e. "Thorne is the only supplement manufacturer to collaborate with Mayo Clinic on wellness research and content. Thorne is also a proud partner of U.S. Olympic Teams."
I just ordered it and am hoping for good results. Again, thanks!!

It’s one of the top-rated supplement makers because of the third-party testing and pricier than most. I use some of their products. Costco sells organic turmeric in a big plastic tub that also has pepper in it. I use a small scoop whenever I make a batch of lentils or whole grain to freeze in my batch cooking regimen. That way I have some on most days. I also add pepper for double assurance.
