What is minimum period of Alendronate to minimise Prolia rebound?
I started on Prolia in July 2022 on advice from my doctor that the treatment would be for only 4-5 years and thereafter I could stop. I have taken 3 Prolia injections, the last one in July 2023.
Before my 4th injection in Jan 2024, I started doing a lot of reading and decided that I do not want to be on any osteoporosis drug at all. So, instead of taking my 4th Prolia injection and to minimise the rebound effect from stopping Prolia, I started on a weekly dose of Alendronate.
However, I am really not comfortable taking Alendronate as well and would like to seek any advice/opinion on whether I am stuck with taking Alendronate for the next 6, 12 or even 24 months.
What is the shortest period I can be on Alendronate? Or should I just risk the rebound effect and stop my Alendronate now (I have taken 3 weekly doses so far)?

It is very disappointing
I do exercise. I just started a strong bones class through the university extension. It’s been twice a week. I do walk some, but not as good in the winter. Currently we are having an ice storm and the power went out. I also do some farm work daily that adds steps and lifting.
Sounds like you are doing the best you can with ‘winter’ exercises. I live in Michigan so winters are indeed miserable for getting out to exercise. I walk on the treadmill for 45” every morning, do weights for my arms and some leg lifts. Needless to say, I’m not one to say I enjoy doing the exercises, but I grin and do it anyway. I also drink 2 glasses of milk each day and take vitamin D3 because that’s what my doctor recommended I do. I dread tomorrow as it is Monday and that’s when I take my weekly Fosamax…oh well. I hope your ice storm is over and you get your power back soon! Blessings
It's possible that no change doesn't mean no improvement. If your T score was increasing and it's stopped, that's a good thing, no? Not saying you shouldn't explore other therapies, but don't be discouraged.
T-scores
2022. -3.7
2023. -3.5
2024. -3.7
Hip slight improvements
No breaks yet
Power is back on!
Good self discipline on exercise. That’s great!
Besides D3, I take K2-MK4. The K2 helps your body direct calcium to the bones. D3 and K2 work well together.
