Vowst for CDiff

Posted by fr33dom7 @fr33dom7, Feb 1, 2024

Please share your experiences with Vowst for preventing cdiff recurrence. I am fighting my fourth cdiff recurrence since June 2023. I have been on Vancomycin three times and Dificid once. I am now on vancomycin again as required before beginning Vowst therapy. I am so tired, and worried.

I started Vowst Monday, March 24, 2025. That was after I stopped taking Vancomycin twice a day Thursday, March 20th. I talked with Amber Pharmacy on the 21st. They are very helpful and they call to give you more instructions and helpful tips. I'm not going to lie, the magnesium citrate was nasty. You drink 10 oz the day before. The bottle does come with the Vowst capsules. The person I talked with at Amber, advised me to drink it around 2:00 pm so there wouldn't be any running to the bathroom late at night. I took the four capsules in the next morning, they tend to stick going down, not a pleasant feeling. You are not to eat or drink for one hour after taking the capsules. Plus, you need to fast, no water or food eight hours prior to taking the capsules. That goes for each day.
The only side effect I have has so far, I had a couple bouts of diarrhea the first day. The only other effect has been fatigue.
I'm hoping this is something that will work for a very long time.

How many days do you have to take the pills?

REPLY

You take 4 pills per day for 3 days.

Hi, I finished the 3 day 4 pills per day March 26, 2025. So far it has been okay. I haven't had a C Diff episode. I have had a couple of times when I thought one was going to start, but, so far so good. I guess since the GI track needs to settle in with the new bacteria it takes some getting used to. This is probably why my gut feels and acts differently now. It's nothing bad, it's just different. I'll update in about a week. Hopefully, I'm still doing well.

Thank you for the update. Looking forward to the next update. Prayers that you continue to improve.

Hi Everyone,
I know it has been awhile since I have given an update. I finished the three day course of Vowst treatment March 26, 2025. It has been over a year and I am so happy to report I have not had any C Diff breakouts. I hesitate to tout my good tidings since I'm always afraid that something will trigger a new episode.
So, if you are on the fence about Vowst, I can say that it has given me a very good result. If I would need to take it again, I would without hesitation.
Good luck to everyone and hopefully, there will be some type of help in the near future to help stop this dreaded disease. I know it is being researched and there are on going trials. Let's hope for the best. 🙂

I am on a Tapered regimen of Vanco and right now take 2 pills a day, I went to an infectious disease doctor and he said he recommended Vowst. I signed up for it and waiting to see if my insurance (Medicare) will pay for it. My question is my doctor told me when I receive the vowst pills to stop the vanco and wait one day and the next day start the pills after taking the laxative . Everywhere I read the instructions say to finish the antibiotics (Vanco) before starting Vowst. Also this started with three teeth that need to be pulled. I had such pain from the one tooth which has a crown i took antibiotics which gave me DCiff. I had taken a lot of antibiotics because I had diverticulitis earlier in the year and had a couple flair ups so I have taken a lot of antibiotics . I still have the three bad teeth. I want to get them pulled while on Vanco because I'm hoping that Vanco will replace any antibiotics the oral surgeon will want me to take. Anyone have any advice?

Antibiotics kill off all the bugs in the body both good and bad. C-Diff comes when there are no good bugs (bacteria) to police the bad bugs and C-Diff is the result. Please do follow your doctors direction. Vancomycim does not kill C-Diff, if just slows it down. Do eat natural yogurts only and or Kimchi. As both have natural good bugs. Your C-Diff can get so much worse if you don't take care of it. And please when talking Antibiotics take probiotics CULTURELLE or eat natural yogurt. Please do not mistake probiotics for prebiotics. Probiotics should be taken in the morning with a cool glass of water. Then wait 2 hours before eating or drinking anything hot. I hope you found this helpful.

I can sympathize, as I am on my 4th round of antibiotics. At end of antibiotics will begin vowst. Best of luck to you. I was reassured to read your comment! It reassured me it was the disease, not me.
