Having stroke-like symptoms: Addicted to sports betting

Posted by christian2940 @christian2940, Mar 22, 2025

I am 21yrs old, I started sports betting 3yrs ago; and now I think I'm addicted to it, cause I stake high to get high winnings.
I feel my heart beating so hard whenever I lose, and now I have a pounding headache, severe chest pain and my whole body is always very weak.
At this point I can't help myself, and I'm afraid that this might be stroke, I need help please...

If I had to place money on the table, my bet would be tachyarrhythmia, possibly atrial fibrillation...but you should go to an ER and get a proper assessment. This could be very serious. Please do it now.

My son is addicted, bad, and those are major results. I can only advise to stop gambling before you get worse. ❤️🥰🙏🏻

More than likely a panic attack at your age, but as someone else noted, I am not a doctor ! Definitely get into the doctor to get checked out and have him refer you to GA- gamblers anonymous !

Hi, @christian2940. I am reading about your heart beating hard whenever you lose sports bets, plus a pounding headache, severe chest pain and a weak whole body. I am concerned for you and your health.

Did you end up going to the emergency room? How are you feeling today?

@christian2940 it sounds like you’re experiencing anxiety surrounding your betting. You should see a psychiatric or psychological professional who specializes in your type anxiety. If you google the ‘Psychological aspect of sport betting’ you’ll find more answers and help in finding a therapist.

It's an awful addictive gambling, could you try to find some gambling anonymous groups, they would be great and really helpful.
I would go and see you're doctor, he might perscribe you something for the overwhelming feeling anxiety, I wish you the best, you are so young please don't ruin you're life on gambling, Good Luck x

@christian2940, I sympathize with your situation and truly understand what you’re experiencing, it really doesn’t matter what your addiction is to, the side effects are all quite similar. Firstly try not to panic because it will make you more anxious and always know that there’s help available for you, getting started is the first and biggest step which means that you need to be directed to the right doctor to get you on your way.. you’ve already made a very good decision by coming here for advice and there are many helpful people with experience in this area. Try to stay focused and positive attitude and know that help is there waiting for you, stay strong and keep your faith in God who is there and knows what you are going through, the answers will come to you in due time, all the best to you in your journey to recovery, amen 🙏.
