I also was told by Mayo AZ that they are not scheduling appointments and have no cancellation list.
@bevie24, I’m sorry to hear that you had difficulties receiving an appointment at Mayo Clinic. Mayo Clinic continues to accept new patients. Unfortunately Mayo Clinic has more requests for appointments than available openings in some departments including Gastroenterology. Over the last few years, we’ve experienced unusually high demand for appointments, which has exceeded our capacity. This unfortunately seems to be the situation across the nation and around the world.
@katreilly, while there are no wait lists, people who have a scheduled appointment may receive an earlier appointment if there is a cancellation.
@bevie24, I see you also started a useful discussion here to help people find specialists in Mesenteric Panniculitis. I update the title to get more responses:

I tried to get an appointment with Mayo for five years. Finally one day I called to see if I could make an appointment with an ENT for an ongoing ear infection. Fortunately I was able to get an appointment. Wonderful, caring and professional doctors and staff. The Mayo in our area is almost an hour's drive but well worth it.
Keep being persistent and don't give up. Good luck.
That is very disappointing to hear. I just left my gastroenterologist office and after five years he feels that I need a total colectomy. He wants to schedule me for consult in Minnesota. I was scheduled in 2021 in Boston but was terrified to do it. I might be ready now but no appointments for this year. Oh boy this is awful. Took me 5 years to decide. I’m so sorry for you.

I have been sick with nausea for six years. The last year has been unbearable. I have gone to multiple drs and specialists and they can’t figure it out. I have a spinal cord injury and am disabled so being ill has just made me so weak and worse. I have tried to make an appointment at Mayo for years and this year I have tried multiple departments. I kept getting denied. I have finally got an appointment with neurology, which I’m not sure is the problem but maybe from there they can help me get into a different department if needed. It always lead back to Gastro with the nausea and no they are not taking appointments. For a organization that says they can help people, especially people that have unusual, undiagnosed illnesses you would think you should be able to get in there.
Well not really getting any great answers except don’t plan on getting an appointment for a very long time.
It would be helpful if mentors make suggestions as to how to take the best approach to getting an appointment. Maybe help with some steps that most need to follow. I called Friday 5 times and couldn’t get a human to get answers to some simple questions.
Maybe I need to go back to Boston for a consult. It’s rather easier at Mass General, Beth Israel and Brigham and Women’s to at least get some questions answered.
I understand it’s listed as the best in the country but it would be comforting to have a department you can call for something. Extremely disappointing
April, 2025. Yes, I was just told the same thing. Appt person suggested I work with my local dr. My local dr is great, but she’s never heard of Mesenteric Panniculitis.
Yep, frustrating
I was told the same thing about appointments. ☹️

It is frustrating when unable to schedule an appointment with a provider at Mayo or anywhere. You may want to look at the following discussion in Visiting Mayo on same topic:

Sounds like your doing self-referral, have you talked to your current provider about doing a referral?
