Antidepressant Duloxetine side effects tough, any suggestions?

Posted by mombo @mombo, Aug 19, 2024

I am a RA patient. I am in search of an antidepressant that can help with pain but not Duloxetine which had me very agitated. The charts of antidepressant side effects are overwhelming. I thought I would reach out here to see if anyone had antidepressant suggestions. I realize the result are quite varied but suggestions would be a good start for the next one. Thanks

Antidepressants are a real crap-shoot over how it will and won't work for each individual. And even when you find one that works, you may find that after a period of time, it stops working and you have to switch again. What you are doing is what I found to be the best way - ask what others are using and how it's working for them. I am currently on Escitalopram - I'm experiencing no side effects and it works well (for me). It also has a pretty broad dosage range - so you can start out with a low dosage and up it as needed. Before Escitalopram, I was on citalopram which stopped working for me after a few years. Also did Welbutrin and hated it because of side effects. Just keep pushing and trying until you are satisfied with the results. There are so many choices. Good luck; and here's to better living through chemistry.

Hi. I started Wellbutrin but experienced increased blood pressure. I stopped taking them. I was only on a few days. Did you experience this side effect? Thanks

Not that I know of (although, that was about when my primary put me on blood pressure meds for borderline high blood pressure). I had sores in my mouth. When I told the doctor, she acted like it was impossible the Wellbutrin was causing this. After I was off it (and the sores went away) I looked it up on drugs.com, and it's a known side effect. Argh.

I put myself on a low carbohydrate diet and started walking several hours every day and within a year I not only lost weight, but vanquished all symptoms of clinical depression, sans any drugs, chemicals, herbs, supplements, or prescribed medications!!! Any amount of alcohol will derail your progress!!! Psychoactive street concoctions are even more deleterious !!! 😇

You are welcome to do with your body as you choose. My dieting experience is weight cycling, ending up gaining more than I lost each time - which, of course, is the experience of most dieters over a 5 year period. I do water aerobics three times a week. And I still have clinical depression and other various health issues, and lost no weight until I went on Mounjaro for my type 2 diabetes (which is genetic as it runs in both sides of my family). Aren't you lucky that you don't need any chemical help; but I am sure you realize that your experience is your experience and not those of others.

Mombo, my rheumatologist has put me on Lamictal for pain, but says it also is a fine depression helper. But she also told me 60 mg of Cymbalta (duloxitine), twice a day was the best thing to do..the Lamictal is a helper. And it's an anti-anxiety med, and doesn't interfere with any other of my meds, and it's an anti-inflammatory. She also put me on Medical marijuana, but told me it's tricky to find the right combination and the right dosing/timing to avoid too much of a high, so I'll be working closely with a Pharmacist at a Med mj dispensary to work that out over time. Both Doc and Pharmacist sounded extremely poitive about it and aware that some folks are wary of the bad reputation it's gotten from too many stinky high-as-a-kite users of it as a recreational product, and unaware of a very very long history of medical research and use. Ask your Rheumatologist beore you give up on anti-depressants. She may just end up sending you elsewhere, but sending to someone who knows is good, right? 😁😁🤞
