@pgruetz, Isn't it great to have trust and admiratation for your transplant team? We would not be here without them. They are the heroes among us!

After your difficult pre transplant, I read that you are now 2 years post liver transplant. That now makes you an expert...an expert by experience. What is something that you wish that you had known before your own transplant that others might benefit from?

I didn’t realize the length of recovery which wasn’t as long as I was told I went back to work after 6 months as a plumber and felt great to be able to function again . I had to learn how to walk twice and at 64 wasn’t expecting that but it motivated me even further. My biggest concern for anyone getting a transplant make sure you have a advocate that has power of attorney that is 100% behind you, unfortunately my whole family failed me even my kids but my fiancé was and her family too . I was near death so everything was given to her in case because I was in extremely bad shape. After my surgery I had a stroke, seizure, brain bleed, collapsed lungs, and a coma for a few days, make sure all paperwork is in order is my advice, my surgery was 13 hours which isn’t normal, anyone that can deal with the magnitude of this I give great credit to , praise all your doctors and nurses especially any chance you get because I was in ICU for 6 months, To this day I’m amazed how they do it
