What are some favorite movies?

Posted by samuelmyrick @samuelmyrick, May 16, 2024

I have loved movies since I first watched Tarzan as a kid. Now they are a valuable distraction for me as I feel empty and isolated and alienated. Here are a few of my favorites:

Adaptation
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Saving Private Ryan
Little Miss Sunshine

Since I have been ill and anxious my taste in movies has changed a lot. I no longer like crime movies, suspense, and certainly not horror.
It’s hard to find comedies that don’t rely too much on crude sexual content.
Soooo, I find we go to Turner Classics a lot. Some are just too old to relate to, but I still can enjoy many of them.

Somewhat more recent films I enjoyed are:
Tootsie
Mrs. Doubtfire
Something’s Got to Give
The Devil wears Prada
It’s complicated
A league of Their Own
The First Wives Club
Julie and Julia
The Greatest Showman
All worth another viewing if you’ve already seen them.

Love "Little Miss Sunshine"!
All-star cast and wickedly funny. Alan Arkin, as usual, steals the show. I think this was his last major film appearance (RIP).

That's why I avoid the Farrelly brothers movies like the plague. I found "There's Something About Mary" mildly amusing , though raunchy. But then I made the mistake of viewing their awful remake of "The Heartbreak Kid" and that was enough for me. I don't generally watch the sophomoric stuff that Amy Schumer, Amy Pohler and the other kids fount on the cinematic world. Like you said: juvenile and gross are not a winning combo for me.

Im a big Dylan fan.

But, Timothée Chalomet?
Really?
He's a little bit too pretty to realistically portray Zimmerman.

I think that Bob, at least secretly, agrees.

I love "It's a Wonderful Life" (Christmas movie) , "The Time Traveler" , The Sound of Music", 'The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry" and the very old Disney movies. Any of the old Shirley Temple movies.

God Bless you Samuelmyrick. Praying for you right now.

God loves you and created you special. People on this website care about you too. Keep us posted please.

Timothy plays Bobby to a T.
I can't understand why he didn't win an award.

Buster Crab starring in serials of Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers 25th Century were the basis for the first Star Wars "New Hope" movie and why it was labeled Episode IV.
The one I cried at the end was "The Notebook"--love it.
My Western hero was Wild Bill Elliott and I got to see him in person at a Rodeo. He and the clowns tried to play poker on the back of a bull. The bull won!
I also loved Alfred Hitchcock movies especially "The Trouble with Harry" which introduced Shirley Maclaine.
