Has anyone experienced incontinence after HOLEP surgery ?

I recently had HOLEP surgery at the end of 2024. One of my main issues nine weeks later is incontinence or leakage. Been doing kegels but it still persists. Has anyone else experienced this and for how long?

Did you experience strong bruning sensation when peeing, after HOLEP? Did you make the surgery with a procedure called MILEP (less invasive)? How do you hidrate yourself knowing that after drinking a lot of water you have to pee painfully? How do you cope with this? Medicines help to relieve the pain? Thank you

I had median lobe holep 1/31/25
As of today I’m not experiencing any major issues side effects associated with this procedure.
My nerves in the area treated still feel slightly sore now and then.

Congratulations my friend, I have to make a MILEP (less invasive HOLEP) surgery too, but I am really afraid of pos operative outcomes. I have only one working kidney, and I´m figuring myself how can I take high doses of pain relievers, without burden my only kidney.
I´m very anxious, May God help me.

If you’re going to a skilled surgeon hopefully your pain management won’t be too severe. Everyone differs when it comes to healing and more if you have underlying conditions. If all goes well the only post op pain for holep is a sting when go after catheter removal and any healing in the area treated

Unfortunately to me there´s a study at The Journal of Urology called - A SCRUTINIZED ANALYSIS OF DYSURIA IN THE FIRST WEEKS AFTER HOLMIUM LASER ENUCLEATION OF THE PROSTATE (HOLEP): WHO SHOULD WE BLAME?
where it´s said that - dysuria currently represents the main problem after endoscopic enucleation of the prostate with Holmium Laser (HoLEP). This scared me a lot, because I have only working kidney and, how can I take a lot of pain relievers without damaging my kidney? And how one can hydrate himself with a lot of fluids knowing that he will feel a lot of pain when peeing? I really don´t what know what to do. I´m really completely lost with all of these information. And worst at all my BPH symptoms are getting worst and worst.

I´m very glad you found a reliable doctor to assist you. My actual health is very bad because of BPH. I have difficult begin urinating, frequency and by night I wake up 5 times to urinate. I´m very tired. Using only tamsuloin plus dutasteride, but effects lasts only 8 hours. I really need to make a surgery

I had HOLEP on 3 Dec 24. Have had incontinence since the surgery. Did my 3 month follow up and the doctor told me to keep doing the kegel/pelvic floor exercises. I do them every day. I have gone from 6 to 7 diapers per day to 3 per day. Things started really changing when I hit the 3 month mark. Very little leakage at night. Mostly happens when I am up and about. Don't give up.

On your kegel exercises how many times a day do you do them? How many reps and how many sets? Thanks.

The Physical Therapist had me doing 6 sets for a total of 60 kegels. I do them in the morning and just space them out a bit. Look up Michelle Kenway on YouTube. She thoroughly explains how to do them and how many to do daily. My PT showed me the link.

I had Holep January 21st. Wore diapers for 3 days and no trouble until recently began leaking at night. Had no trouble for almost a month. I don't know what to expect next. LOL

I had HOLEP at Mayo Jax towards end of October. After a rough few days started getting better each day. About 1 month post op things took a turn for the worse. Pain urinating, extreme urgency and frequency. Doctors said sometimes happens. Stay the course. 2 months later and everything back to normal. No pain, urgency or frequency. Everyone heals differently. Every surgery is different. Hope this helps.
