(85-year-old, former "alcohol dependent" male responding.) Stopping daily or numerous weekly alcoholic drinks is mandatory when you have PN! However, I have not seen anything that identifies occasional drinking (like once a week or a few times per month), nor have I personally experienced any increase in my PN symptoms by having a beer once every 2-3 weeks. No alcohol is even better, of course.

1 ReactionI’m sure there a lot of us on Connect. I’m an 83 female
that neuropathy upended my life; but, I’ve pretty well figured out a routine that gets me out and going now. Just keep experimenting with different prescribed meds and find what works for you.

2 ReactionsSame with me. It's at the end of a nights sleep that my legs from shins to toes are worse so I get up. Then I can proceed and go on with my day. 73 yrs young!

2 ReactionsI said a few days ago that I had figured it out. Then why did I have a martini-which I love- last night when I knew I would pay for it with my legs “killing” me today???
I have non-diabetic neuropathy --'idiopathic' and have for 20 years--I'm 71. I now also have light tingling in my torso and arms. Last coupl of years the numbness in my feet is increasing. I don't have trouble walking but I do Zumba once a week when I can and also a class that has lots of isolated muscle and joint movement. I think keeping the muscles strong and the body flexible helps.
Why are you looking for people with non-diabetic neuropathy?
I am an 81 year old male with non diabetic neuropathy. I think it is from agent orange from combat in Vietnam. The neuropathy started to manifest itself in my late 60s. When I wear close toed shoes for any length of time my feet “burn” pretty badly. I like to play golf and that’s when that “burning” sensation really manifests itself. Does anyone have suggestions on good golf shoes and socks to wear to minimize the neuropathy pain. Also would like any suggestions on good walking shoes for my neuropathy condition. Mahalo for any suggestions. Aloha😀🌈
