Controlling Tinnitus: What works for you?

Posted by scottk @scottk, Jul 1, 2019

Hello: Has anyone on this site had any luck with controlling tinnitus? I see certain things advertised but always sceptical. Any thoughts/ideas?

Interested in more discussions like this? Go to the Hearing Loss Support Group.

Thank you, and I understand everything that you explained to me- I have also had the same reactions and every aspect of your message.

My tinnitus is a 12 from a 1 to 10 not happening. It’s a 12.

I also would not wear my hearing aids to Bed when I and if I do get them-

The Brain) is an amazing Function- Sadly, no one has figured out tonight probably won’t in my time-

Going to give hearing aids a try next month we will see- I’ll keep connected thank you

🫣 nada- if you can handle white noise on top of your tinnitus, that’s the only option given- There’s nothing you just have to deal with it- Mine is at a Level 12- Overwhelming good luck with yours-

Why is no one ever on this site? Where did everyone go?
Are there any breakthroughs in hearing aids that anyone wants to share?
Any research people are following that might mean a breakthrough might be on the horizon on regrowing hair cells in our ears? Are there any hearing aids that are waterproof?
Let’s hear some upbeat news.

I love it are there any updates in tinnitus research- ahhhhh no!

How about growing hair? follicles in the ear- Gotta be a seed for that one.

Just in case you’re not researching hearing aids, you do understand that in each hearing aid there’s a processor- The processor is the key-

It’s kind of like buying a car do you want a V8 a six a Maserati a Chevy or Ford? That’s what it’s about however, each brand is key-

You actually can go into Hearing Aid office and they will let you try the Hearing Aid on after they Program the processor to your hearing specifics

And you can walk outside and just hang out for a minute and see how it feels-

Not sure where everyone went but I’m done for today. Enjoy research research research questions, questions questions.
You won’t get answers if you don’t ask questions and the question you don’t answer is the one you’re needing an answer to oh my goodness did I say that?

@alli4 The doctor said I could try them but I probably wouldn’t have enough battery for day and night. I wish I could as I lay down right now typing the high pitch is so loud I can hear it louder than my wife’s Cpap . Once my back incisions are healed and get to wear I can sleep comfortably I’m going to try them at night

Hey, how is it possible to sleep in hearing aids-
You turn left to turn right not not a good feeling-
My tinnitus is a 12 at night- Only had it for a few months - It’s really unbearable, but it is what it is since the medical world isn’t as interested in figuring this out and helping so many with tinnitus it’s actually a brain function you understand that right or should I say a brain dysfunction communication?

@alli4 i actually started with the ringing/buzzing in my left ear around 1998 I had an airline blow apart blowing straight air into my ear , it blew my glasses across the floor and cut a small place on my ear . I went to the Emergency room and was told everything was fine . About 5 years ago I went to a factory job working 4 pm to 4am I bought a Bluetooth sleep mask I could play music in to drown out the noises in my ear and noises from the family since I was trying to sleep until about 1 pm, it helped . The hearing aids might be uncomfortable to sleep with but I still might try them one night

I remove the hearing aids at night. I put in Sony ear buds, the soft kind with a rubber you can change depending on your ear canal size. I plug them into a Sony Walkman and enjoy nature sounds all night (babbling brook, ocean waves, sounds made to mask tinnitus, etc). You can use a computer and program your favourite songs onto the Walkman. it also plays FM radio. I had to learn to sleep on my back and that way I don’t feel the ear buds at all. I also sleep with the head of the bed raised. Mobile bed is very good for that. It took me about a week to adjust to sleeping on my back. Before that I was a side sleeper and loved that position. Also, if you sleep on your back it should be ok to sleep with hearing aids but you would need to program some music or other noise, otherwise the hearing aids won’t be hearing any sound in a quiet room.

🧐 wow That’s a lot of work just to sleep however I won’t use my earbuds when I’m trying to sleep because I don’t need blue noise white noise, green noise. I need no noise- that’s the point and it’s not happening - and Dr don’t get it. They say the same thing. Well here we’ll give you therapy. You can play sounds. I don’t want sounds newsflash. I do not want sounds I need quiet.
oh well as the world turns-
I’m OK during the day because of all the surround sound in the outside.

Sleep is struggle- however like everything else, I am slowly getting used to it talking myself into sleep, go to sleep, close your eyes, etc. etc.
Thanks for your info. I’ve researched it all. There is no answer no matter what they say. There is no answer. You gotta do it yourself.😎

Hi, we all have issues don’t we?- I just started buzzing that I’m aware of October 8, 2024- There is no answer each Individual, As every other situation has to find their own remedy-

I need no noise at all white blue green purple I need silence, And now, as you know, we don’t get that-

However, slowly, I am learning to adjust to the buzzing and getting rest- I’m not saying it’s not annoying Etc.- what is annoying doctors And audiologist saying oh hearing aids will help well they don’t help sleep- And nobody will admit that-
So good luck take care and I’ll just keep researching someday the medical world will find an answer🧐

There's quite a bit about all aspects of tinnitus at this link: https://hearinghealthfoundation.org/tinnitus-resources
The Hearing Health Foundation provides a great deal of information about tinnitus and hearing loss. They collaborate with other research institutions to promote research and share information.

They are searching for cures, but they aren't happening as quickly as we'd like them to. Still, it helps to know these issues that affect us are recognized as genuine health issues. It's frustrating though, when people in the medical community tell us that no help is available. Refer them to this link if you can. Again, it's at https://hearinghealthfoundation.org/tinnitus-resources

If I feel like I am not going to fall asleep easily, I take 2.5mg of valium. Fall right to sleep and wake up feeling fabulous!
