Who cleans your house?

I’m 76years old and have been using a bi-weekly cleaning service for 7 years now (except not during COVID). I’ve had back, femur, and hand surgeries and doing my own cleaning is not possible. I like having my house cleaned by other people. It relieves me of the burden of stress.

I am not yet 70 (68), but for those who still do your own housework and mention vacuuming and swiffers to keep up with dog hair, I’d like to suggest a robo-vac. I have a natural long-haired Shih Tzu and I have the RoboRock vac (which vacs and mops) programmed to run at 10:15AM and 2:15PM weekdays and keeps the floors perfectly clean! Mine’s been running this schedule for the past 4 to 5 years. I’ve suggested the same to several friends and now they love theirs also. Priceless!

There are many tasks I know how to do. Including painting woodwork.

Or you can combine them - when I paint, I like to do it with another handy friend, my daughter or my sister. The same with other ugly tasks that never seem to get tackled, like clearing a shed - besides, if one has hoarder (or saver) tendencies, the other can convince them to let go.
The other way you can do it is how my Dad did in retirement - no work after 1 pm - that was time to socialize, swim, nap, relax...I used to think it took longer to get things done, but now I do the same - my cutoff is between 4 & 5 pm, then it is time for social hour, or a card game. Sometimes I turn my day upside down and watercolor or do fiber art projects in the AM followed by tasks in the afternoon.
We also try to turn errands, or even trips to the laundromat, into social time by going together, or with a friend, or taking a grandkid along and making an adventure of it - my grandkids love checking out hardware, auto parts, dollar, thrift and any unusual stores with us.

I'm 80 and I still do my cleaning and laundry with hubby's help. Takes a couple of days but that's okay.

I turned 78 recently and decided that most of my energy was going into cleaning. I have a few health problems and just so much energy. I found a gal on Thumbtack who is going to come once a month. She has come twice and I can't tell you how much better I feel. Before this, I was trying to do one thing a day, mostly in the morning when I have more energy. Now I know what actually needs to be done and what can wait for her to come.

I’ve been using a Robo for a decade now. The latest models are great. Smart. Efficient. Easy to use. My old Hoover is gathering dust.

I will be 83 next week and have someone do a good cleaning once a month. I do the basics in between. I live in a 2 BR. 1 BA house which I found for my retirement. I cook most meals myself. Works for me! Susan
