Tips on minimizing withdrawal symptoms from Effexor (aka Venlafaxine)

Posted by richyrich @richyrich, Nov 2, 2016

I have been taking Effexor/Venlafaxine for years and tried to get off it a few times but each time I try to give up the chemical withdrawal symptoms are a horror story and I give up giving up. Anyone got any tips or tried and tested strategies? Thank you

I have been on Effexor for 7 years and I stopped seeing my psychiatrist because I did not like her and she had given me a hundred 50 mg of Effexor well my primary care physician had given me 75 I have now run out of the prescription of 150 mg and no one will refill it and I don't know what to do

@wandasophia if I'm understanding correctly, you are still taking 150 mg? Or did you go from 150 to 75 when you changed doctors?

I ran out of my a hundred 150 mg Effexor and because I have not seen the psychiatrist she won't renew the prescription I do have 75mg monthly prescribed but I tried to get my primary care to give me the hundred and fifty and go off the 75 but he wouldn't do it either

Morning all. Just checking in...you probably notice I have not been contributing much.
Truth is...not feeling so good.
Remember my policy of not giving what I don't have...
Ok, I am here and reading. Sleep disorder...I conquered the mother of sleep disorders long long time ago. I will see what I can pull out of this brain that is not wanting to cooperate with me.
Tomorrow is payday. My CBD will be on its way to me. Wow I am used to being on 2,400 mg CBD a month, being on 600 mg for the month has stolen my life as I like to live it. I've started dropping things from my social calender. Just don't feel like going.
Well, this too shall pass. Bright Wings

@brightwings I'm so glad your CBD is on it's way, hang in there...this too shall pass...its good to take a step back from things sometimes. Not stepping back as in having a setback, just stepping back from being "in it", getting a broader perspective. You are an example for all of us in your awareness of self.

@wandasophia have you dropped from 150 to 75 mg? Or are you taking 2 of the 75 mg ? Sorry if I'm not reading your posts correctly, it's not a great brain day for me. The important thing is, not to drop too quickly, so if you can manage to adjust your dosage for a,slow taper that's what is recommended. Did your PCP give any reason for not continuing your 150 mg dosage?

@wandasophia
Hello!
You have 2 choices (that I know of) to get your prescriptions, from your PCP or a psychiatrist.
If you don't like who you went to, try another.
