Hi, I’m Karen . I am going to have bariatric surgery on March 4 type of surgeon I’m going to have is ROUXENY gastric bypass.
How bad is the recovery after the surgery?

I imagine your getting nervous about surgery, everyone does. I will be thinking of you tomorrow.

Walking is important, pace yourself during recovery, but keep moving. You asked about driving in another comment, ask your provider, but once off pain pills and can tolerate a seatbelt, it should be OK to drive.

Let us know how it goes.

Hello,
I'm scheduled for my Bariatric surgery on April 1! I'm excited but still wonder how my body is going to react to all the changes. I deal with a lot of chronic pain which I really hope this surgery will help with. I was wondering if any one has had Protein2o or other clear protein drinks as part of there clear liquid diet?

I would like to make a post on usage of the weight loss drugs. I see many have remarkable results. But as I write this make sure you follow the advice of your doctors and whatever is on your medication manufacturer list.

I was prescribed WEGOVY. Per my PCP I had to start with lowest dose (I think .25) to see if any adverse reaction. I had none so when to next, then to next to where I got to the highest dose 2.4.

I had had no side affects with the other doses (except for minor change in bowel movements) and sadly no weight loss or reduction in appetite except for slight reduction at dinner.

My wife had some serious health issues and did not start WEGOVY 2.4 which prescribes you do 1-2 days after you end the lower dose. It was over a month that I did not start it. After my wife got better, I thought it was a good time now to try the 2.4 but thought nothing of it as it had little or no side effects or weight loss of lower doses. BAD DECISION!

So this last Monday (03/03) decided to do the injection. About 2 hours later just prior to going to bed noticed a headache and some stomach upset. Had had nothing on previous dosages.

I went to bed and the headache and stomach upset got worse and worse. So got up at 4:40 a.m. to just sit up. I tried to take some medication for my heart that requires eating food with. I always eat yogurt with it and did not that morning. Within 10 minutes I really got nauseous and then vomited over and over.

Now my headache is really bad, and I am really sick to my stomach. I sent a message (using portal) to my Mayo PCP. It another couple of hours had another episode of vomiting. My Mayo PCP called and said come in on a acute visit. I did and was told that you cannot take the higher doses of these medications unless you are going through the lower dose's regimen. The body becomes sensitized through the process, but that sensitization wears off and you were back to day one. Then you hit your body with the highest dose, and it reacted.

I won't go into the treatments to get over this but just wanted to share how important it is to follow your doctor's orders and manufacturer of your obesity medications. When talking to my health providers on this I was told that some have these severe side effects even with starting the lowest dosages.

I was talking to the PA of my doctor who is a diabetic and started Ozembic and he has my reaction even on the low dose. We both agreed very jealous of those who had success taking these drugs as their success stories.

Just be careful and don't be a dummy like I was.

The surgery went well.
However, we were ask to be at the hospital at 10am and did not get called in until 2pm.for surgery,
I got up to my room around 9pm and I was discharged the next day by 3pm.
I believe the discharge was way too soon.I n fact, I asked to stay another day.
The reason I believe I was not ready was because I was having a difficult time with medication side effects. Example: I was very dizzy foggy and unsteady on my feet after my medication was given. Because of this I had a difficult time comprehending what the nurses, dietician ... were relating to my care.
When I left the hospital I had two complications that I needed to reach out to my Doctor for help.
Hopefully day 3 goes better.

I am glad surgery went OK, but it is a shame they dismissed you so soon. Many years ago when I had mine, they had me stay for few days because after a certain medication I vomited. By next day I was fine.

I have had the experience of delayed surgery start. One time I was admitted in morning and did not get into surgery till late afternoon. Surgeon apologized and explained the prior surgery had unexpected complications. But I was so anxious I was ready to get off gurney and go home.

Maybe you should ask your care team to schedule an appointment with nutritionist to go over information again. Even a phone call or virtual appointment. It is important that you understand the instructions.

When is your next follow up appointment?
