Looking For A Hotel Suggestion: Mayo Rochester, MN
I have an appointment scheduled for mid December at the Rochester Clinic and I’m looking for just the right hotel. My wants and needs:
1) Covered parking and it needs to be readily accessible - I do not travel light😉;
2) I’m a walker so I don’t need to be right across the street and I’m a Minnesota gal so I can handle the weather, but I do want to be able to walk to my appointments;
3) I’m a germaphobe. I travel with my own bedding, hence the need to be able to get things from my car. I know. I’m weird. We own two small inns in Florida so let’s just say I’m very well aware of hospitality standards. No matter where I stay, any time I travel, I always leave the room much cleaner than when I checked in.
It’s a short list, but weirdly specific. I’d like a fridge in the room, but I do not need a kitchenette. I don’t eat breakfast so that’s not a concern either.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am glad you had a successful appointment at Mayo. Sorry you were disappointed in hotels. Hopefully your next stay at Berkmann will be more enjoyable.
For those reading comments and wondering about the Berkman, it is a combination of apartments and short term rentals located across street from main entrance of St Mary's on 14th Ave SW.
Did you tour the Berkmann? or is your decision based on web site and recommendations?
Yes I think the travel and my previous healthcare providers before arriving had me really stressed out. Once I experienced Mayo Clinic, the wave of positivity there had me in a better place. I stopped by the Berkman on my way out of town and was pretty impressed. I know there are much cheaper options though. Any negatives I am missing? I liked the St. Mary’s area a lot. I also agree with Myak that the Residence Inn looks appealing. I think I made the mistake of not contacting Concierge Services as I didn’t know about it. It seems like a great service!
Looking for a recommendation for a 2 night stay, thinking between Aspen Suites and Aspen Select.
@cabgreenbay I have stayed at Aspens Suites when I had surgery at Mayo Mary Brigh Hospital and is it literally just across the street. You just cross at a stoplight with a crosswalk and enter a side entrance at the hospital (Tower Entrance). Hotels wit close access are more expensive. If you are will to ride a shuttle or have a car with you, you can stay further out. I like Candlewood Suites because it has a full kitchen, also some underground parking. I have food issues, so I have trouble finding anything at a provided hotel breakfast that I can eat. Candlewood Suites also has some kitchen equipment to lend like a crock pot.
Thank you for the info. I am mostly concerned with parking and ease of walking to Gonda bldg.
@cabgreenbay Aspen Suites Hotel is about a mile from the Gonda Building. The Mary Brigh Hospital is not connected to the other Mayo clinical buildings area, but there are shuttles that run between them. My suggestion is to call the free Concierge service and tell them what you're looking for. They have good recommendations and are very helpful and can give you hotel rates. That's how I found Candlewood Suites which is good and not so expensive and it is about a mile form the Gonda building. The hotels do offer Mayo patient rates, but closer ones cost more. Some hotels also charge for parking (usually the closer ones).
Here is a map of the Rochester Campus and it does show some close hotels within walking distance to the Gonda building.

When are your appointments?
I have been to Mayo many times for surgery and visits. Initially when I didn’t know my way around, I stayed at the Marriott or the Kahler that are connected to the Gonda building and Methodist hospital. Since then, I always stay at the Fairfield Marriott and suites on 16th St. It is a wonderful place. The management is great. They have a breakfast and it is now my go to destination to stay. They do have a shuttle but often times I will just drive from there to the Damon or Graham ramp and it brings you right into the buildings at the subway level underground if you were going a lot, you can stop at the valet once you were inside and buy a five or 10 day parking ticket which makes parking cheaper. Good luck to you!
@cabgreenbay I have been going to Mayo for almost 10 years. I always stay at Econolodge on S Broadway. No pool but has an exercise room, free parking and a free daily shuttle to drop you right at the Gonda building. Wonderful free breakfast, friendly staff, very clean, reasonably priced and what I like best is no carpet in the rooms.
