Has anyone used Cefdinir?

" A little nervous about the meds, but don't have much choice." YES, you do have a choice. A choice to take the drugs or not take the drugs. Educate your self on the disease and the drugs, this is a great place to start, learn all you can so that you can make an informed decision based on YOU, your body and your situation. We are all different. Personally I don't blindly accept what anyone tells me, even if they have a bunch of letters after their name.

@bbeers Some people though, for various reasons, refuse antibiotic treatment. Perhaps it is a last resort option for them, but I do wonder what further damage is done in the meantime? This could be very individualized though and different for everyone perhaps. Regular CT scans would be important to monitor for any progression of disease.

Others on this site have used antibiotics and have had great outcomes. You could hopefully ask for another medical opinion.

I don’t have MAC to contend with at this point, however if you have additional flareups and have bleeding and the antibiotics are highly recommended, I’ve seen others on MAYO mention you could start the antibiotics and see how your body responds. Just a thought. Good luck with your decision making!

You know that, when you go to the ER or to see your pulmonologist, that "bunch of letters" after their name comes from years of education and training, right? And that that "bunch of letters" is the result of experience and specialized knowledge, not unfettered access to YouTube?

While as patients we have an obligation to educate ourselves about our condition, its possible treatment(s), and the long-term effects of our choices, we also have an obligation to acknowledge that our doctors may indeed possess superior medical knowledge.

My advice to @bbeers would be to talk with your doctor, ask many questions, and make a plan together to address your bronchiectasis and MAC before they worsen.

Good information there and I like what Irene posted; K2MK7. I am a believer in knowing our bodies and body chemistry and what might help. Supplements with all the information gathered about yourself and supplements can help.

I’ve taken Cefdinir with no side effects. I believe a 7 day course.

I was subscribed Cefdinir when I had pneumonia and then pleurisy at different times by my pulmonologist at the Mayo Clinic. I have BE with pseudomonas but not MAC. Normally when I have an infection I’m prescribed amoxicillin. But, when things got worse I was prescribed cefdinir. I’m very sensitive to drugs and did not have any problems or bad reactions taking Cefdinir.

Neither Amoxicillin or Cefdinir treat Pseudomonas by the way. The Dr must have assumed you had something else causing the issues. Did both of them work for you?

I have been prescribed Cefdinir for a flareup and had no problem with it.

It is true that amoxicillin and Cefdinir don’t kill pseudomonas. This was in addition to Colistimethate at the time, as I had other bacteria as well.
