My husband is now almost 77 (end of March). He has been taking Tibsovo daily since my last post. Tibsovo is the pill that targets IDH1 mutations in AML. He went into remission in August 2023 and is still in remission today! He receives chemo for 7 days every 28 days. By the third day of chemo, he is exhausted and comes home and sleeps. He drives himself anywhere he needs to go, goes out for breakfast or lunch after chemo, and comes home. Some days he is able to breakdown the cardboard boxes that are piled up in our entryway and take them to the can for recycling. And some days, he is able to roll the cans down to the curb. It might be a few days later, but he will roll the cans back up our steep driveway after they are emptied! We go out together for a meal at least one per week, as long as it not a very tightly packed restaurant. He avoids trains and flying but he encourages me to travel. I feel a bit uneasy about this but he alleviates my unease by countering each of my concerns.

Almost two years ago, I thought that we were losing him to AML. I thank the doctor, chemo nurses, researchers and my higher power.

This is such an encouraging story, @ccleschats! I’m so happy for you and your husband to have these extra years together! AML can be tricky to wrestle into remission with some of the mutations behind the disease. Having these newer targeted medications that prevent the mutated cells from replicating are game changers! The Tivsovo is doing its job! What type of chemo is he having on a monthly basis?
