Anyone using Nicotine patches for Long Covid?

Posted by tgroff @tgroff, Apr 19, 2023

There is lots of discussion on Facebook Long Covid forums about nicotine patches helping with long covid symptoms after a few days of adjustment to the patches. Any thoughts on this?

I know a person who had success with nicotine patches, so I recently joined a social media group - Renegade Research--#TheNicotineTest Although the information overload in the group can be a bit overwhelming, I have come to realize that this long haul C is definitely legit. It actually helps to realize that perhaps you're not actually loosing your mind because that's exactly how you feel! I do not have a confirmed diagnosis but I am beginning to think LC is what I am experiencing, so I am doing as much research as I can. I plan to see a doctor who is treating LC. All I know is that C along with it's after affects is pure evil and can disrupt your life in a big way!

I agree! Long hauler’s Covid creates havoc in so many ways.
Causing inflammation in all systems of my body and terrible brain fog. Look up Dr Ardis for his treatment with nicotine.

Sensitive skin-- the adhesive on the patch made my skin burn, not the nicotine section of the patch.
Other adhesives also burn my [pain in the neck, stupid, sensitive] skin .
Don't spend too much money on it to start, in case it burns your skin, too.

Too much nicotine can kill. Read the package directions so you don't over dose. Nicotine with caffeine can cause headaches, too high blood pressure, stomach upset.
Go carefully. Use common sense. Observe your own body's reactions, not what somebody else says should be okay. You might be extra sensitive.

Good luck!

Latest research - woldwide it seems - is that nicotine is not addictive. Tobacco giants put pyrazine and around 599 other chemicals in cigarettes - these are waht pushes addiction.
Research also shows that nictone has receptors all over our bodies and is in many vegetables.
I lost taste and am not on 2 mgs nicotine in lozenge form. Best to begin with low dose.
Brainfog has lifted and i have more energy. I do notice my sense of smell is back and some taste

I chew half of a 4mg Nicorette gum middle of afternoon; first few times felt a little dizzy, so always sit and watch tv for about 15 minutes. My Long Covid symptom has been weird feeling in lungs; that has gotten better; I plan to continue using the gum. There's a great video by Dr. Ardis, who recommends this.

Has anyone tried nicotine patches for their long covid? I would be interested to hear your experience - good, bad, whatever.

There is an article with a test on four people and positive results ... but who knows given the small sample size and lack of other literature confirming the efficacy.

I’ve been doing it for a month with some success. Wish it was permanent. After doing the patches for 2weeks I tried to go 24 hours without one, 27 hours later brain fog set in, at 29 hour headaches again. 30hours I had to slap on a new patch…45 minutes later the start of relief. It takes 3-4 days to get back to where I was before. Had COVID at least 3 times with no shots. First time I had covid was first week of Jan 2020. Was a smoker till Aug 2022, then I Vaped till Jan. 2024. After I quit all nicotine Long COVID showed up July 2024, Been to countless doctors, neurologists, had mra, mris,, cat scans for headaches. Brain fog, shortness of breath, chest pain, cough, Waking up in the middle of the night not able to go back to sleep. Upset stomach after eating. Hypersensitive to smells. Doctors just wanted to keep giving me new meds for headaches, injections nasal sprays. Nothing worked, A friend put all my symptoms together and stated that his sister had all of them also and it was long COVID she had luck with the patches and to try the patches. Went back to my doctors and they agreed that I probably have long COVID. But no long term answer how to get rid of it. Driving me crazy.
